.... and is of course just fabulous. Every bit as great to hold and work with as I hoped. My serial no 310103x. Lovely presentation, multi-layers, folder with all the paper bits and CDs, fiendish design for the accessory holder.

Some things commented on in the reviews I agree with, some I don't. Detent on on-off switch for me is fine, shutter release is a little "gritty" compared to the M6, viewfinder is excellent.

Also found that, as we expected, when you mount a coded Tri-Elmar (28-35-50), it DOES detect the position of the frame selector so that you see the actual selected focal length.

Looking forward to trying it out for real - got to wait my 3 hours now to charge the battery!

If you are getting yours today or this weekend, you're going to love it!

Mark,

In some ways the pity is that the battery is the very last thing you find! If you could get at it first and put it on charge you could then spend the three hours opening all the other goodies and time would pass so much faster - just a dream. The three hours does eventually come to an end - but then the software versions issues arise. I just want to take photographs!

I think I've got Capture One LE version 3.7.6 loaded and working and also CS2 with DNG and RAW 3.6 installed, plus setting the Calibrate tab in CS2 to ANG 3.6 as advised on the Forum.

I must say that without this forum I would have taken months to find out some of these things.

I wish you well with your new camera.

Blue dot is definitely not used to set finder display brightness...

Finder magnifier is good for 50mm upwards...

Slight Problem: 21/24/28 Auxiliary Finder, or at least my example of it, will not fit in the hot shoe.. It's the same with the M6, though the finder is fine on a Nikon D2X and R-D1. Flashes are very tight, too, including Leica's own SF-24. Looks to me that the gap between the top flanges of the hot shoe is the absolute minimum if it's in spec.

The man also brought the CV 15 I bought on ebay, I had no idea they are so small. Quite stiff focussing action, so just as well zone focussing is OK.

Haven't got to the software yet, I've some of my own to make work first to pay for this thing. LOL.

I searched for "ANG 3.6" but couldn't find it. In what thread was it discussed?

I understand that the proper brigh lines are selected on the M8 when a coded tri-elmar is used, but does the software indicate whether the 28mm, 35mm, or 50mm was selected? Answering this will answer the question whether or not there is an electronic sensor within the rangefinder part of the camera that will have the integrated flash respond differently for the differing focal lengths of the tri-elmar and also compensate for vignetting differently for the three focal lengths. Would you be willing to check this out for me? Thanks and cheers.

Yes, whereas the selection of the frame lines is mechanical, just as it has always been, the electronics is sensing the position of the lever and the software displays "28mm" not 28-35-50 on the screen when you review an image (with lens sensing enabled).

Just want to post a 'me too'... mine arrived yesterday here in Germany. I only put my name on a single waiting list about a month ago... didn't expect to get anything until around early December. Man those three hours went slowwwwwly... still it gave me time to do some laundry :)

Talk about salt in the wound!

We've been spinning this tale for 2 years, we've all had itchy fingers for the last few weeks, and now when it comes, we have to wait 3 more hours to use it.

Big question -- Is there enuf charge in the battery to verify that the camera works before taking it home from the dealer???

Thanks, and enjoy!

Mine to! Mine too!

I'm useually a very cool person, but today is different... Originally I ordered a Black version but this would take another 2 weeks at least, dealer offered me a chrome instead which I went to pick up this afternoon, the batteries are loading, the software is being installed the Memory card has been laid out ready to pop in... and later this evening I will go out and take some low-lights and see how this capture 1 thing works.

hehehehe

Yes, my battery had some charge in it. Just been out with the Nocti and the light is fading fast, got to learn how to focus this one!

Mine also arrived today (same dealer as Mark). Agree with Mark; there is nothing disappointing about the camera (though I haven't had a chance to take a single shot yet - even of the cat). Fit and finish, as expected, is very fine but the main material (magnesium?) certainly feels different to the (zinc?) shell of my M7 bodies. Menu system seems totally intuitive and the various buttons have a nice feel to them. Viewfinder (the most important element for me) seems up to usual Leica standard but the 24/35 frameline arrangement seems very weird and may take a little getting used to. Will aim to pop out tomorrow morning quite early and put the M8 through its paces with some contre-jour 'landscape' stuff.
