giordano Posted May 26, 2009 Share #21 Posted May 26, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hasselblad's T&S adapter includes optical elements that amount to a 1.5x teleconverter. In line with their general approach it relies on software to compensate for distortion and aberrations from the specific lens+adapter combination. Would Leica be willing to adopt a similar approach? Would Leica buyers accept it?
Advertisement Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Hi giordano, Take a look here Tilt Shift Adapter for S2?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mjh Posted May 26, 2009 Share #22 Posted May 26, 2009 A T/S adapter for existing lenses needs to be a teleconverter – is has to enlarge the image circle to increase the margins for tilt and shift. It is a good and cost-efficient solution for turning a lot of lenses into T/S lenses, especially when the adapter is tightly integrated into the system, as Hasselblad’s adapter is. It is not a solution for wide-angle work, though. This isn’t that much of an issue for Hasselblad as the view camera option continues to be available and is a viable alternative if the task at hand requires wide-angle lenses. For the S2 this isn’t an option, but with the 30 mm T/S lens Leica will have covered the wide-angle end; a T/S adapter for covering everything else would make for a nice addition, but given that Leica’s agenda for the S2 system is still huge as it is, such a solution would be a few years off in any case. sdai Posted May 26, 2009 Share #23 Posted May 26, 2009 Besides Michael's thorough explanation, I want to add that the HTS 1.5 really is nothing new, Hasselblad has done with a PC-Mutar 1.4x before. By my rough calculation, when coupled to the HCD28 on a 36x48 cropped back or to the HC35 on a 645 FF back, the HTS provides a solution equivalent to a 30mm or a 35mm PC lens in 35mm terms. I think Hassy can do more by building a native H mount 35mm PC lens for 645 full frame just to beat Leica's 30 T/S for the S2 for the same or wider area coverage. That's roughly a 24 T/S on the 1Ds or D3, this alone would be a enough good reason to buy into a system IMO.
cirke Posted September 8, 2011 Share #24 Posted September 8, 2011 A Leica Factory Visit I'm told there is a new 30mm due out 'very soon', when will we see this lens? Very soon. (grin) You will be very happy with the new lens. It is maybe a little better than the current 35mm with almost perfect edge sharpness. It's almost the same size as the 35mm but it is f2.8, not f2.5 like the current lens.
tom0511 Posted September 8, 2011 Share #25 Posted September 8, 2011 A Leica Factory Visit But I think it will not be a T/S lens?
cirke Posted September 8, 2011 Share #26 Posted September 8, 2011 the 30 mm was supposed from the beginning to be a TS lens they will not do a normal 35 AND a 30 mm

cirke Posted September 8, 2011 Share #28 Posted September 8, 2011 I hope I am wron and you are right. But my latest info is it would not be a T/S. they have only 3 lenses and they will have now 4 with a 30 and a 35 mm ? it seems illogical maybe you are right because a Elmar-S 30mm f/3.5 Tilt-Shift was announced Leica's announced lens roadmap includes a 24mm f/2.8, 30mm f/3.5 TS, 30–90mm f/3.5 zoom, 35mm f/2.5, 100mm f/3.5, and 350mm f/3.
mjh Posted September 8, 2011 Share #29 Posted September 8, 2011 they will not do a normal 35 AND a 30 mm Just as they didn’t do a 28 mm and a 24 mm lens for the M? ;-) Because that would be the equivalent focal lengths.

dfarkas Posted September 8, 2011 Share #31 Posted September 8, 2011 The confirmed lineup has changed a bit: 24 f/3.5, 30 f/2.8, 35 f/2.5, 70 f/2.5, 120 f/2.5, 180 f/3.5, 30-90 f/3.5-5.6 This is equivalent in 35mm terms to: 19, 24, 28, 50, 100, 150, 24-70 In my opinion, what's missing is a 35mm equivalent focal length like a 45 or 50, as well as a longer lens like a 250 or 300. The 30 at first glance does look to be very close to the 35, but Michael is correct. 24 and 28 have always been standard wide-angle offerings. As far as T/S solutions, there are a couple right now.
