cpclee Posted April 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The DMR + R8 arrived today. I find it to be really nicely built and not as large / heavy as I imagined. Superb ergonomics. But... When I tried shooting with the SF20 flash, the flash in A mode displayed an ISO that was slightly faster than on the camera (150 rather than 100, or 300 rather than 200, or something like that). Also, when I put the R8 on "F" mode and the flash on "M" or "A", the viewfinder showed "err 12" and "err 13", respectively. Is any of this normal? And finally, the DMR would intermittently show "Error Message 02" and lock up. This can not be normal, right? I really want to keep this camera so I'm hoping this is either not serious or can be repaired. Fortunately the dealer has a 3 week return policy plus a 90-day warranty. The serial number of the R8 is 2421xxx. Thanks!

psquared Posted April 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 24, 2009 When I tried shooting with the SF20 flash, the flash in A mode displayed an ISO that was slightly faster than on the camera (150 rather than 100, or 300 rather than 200, or something like that). I don't have my DMR at this moment, because it's in NJ, but I do think the ISO on my 54 MZ-4i did the same thing. I think it does that to compensate for the crop factor. On M8 it adjusts the focal length of the lens to compensate. As far as Error #2 is concerned, there have been a few threads about it. None of them encouraging. Here's one thread: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/82267-welcome-home-my-dmr.html I wanted to say congratulations, but I'm not sure you should keep that DMR, unless the repair is taken care of. stuny Posted April 24, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 24, 2009 I've never been particularly successful with flash and the DMR. Fortunately, I seldom use flash.

robsteve Posted April 26, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 26, 2009 I think your flash error codes are normal. Here is what the Camera Manual says about the error codes: Code 12- Camera in the metering flash mode (F) Flash unit must be set to manual and flash unit in TTL control Code 13- Camera in the metering flash mode (F) Flash unit must be set to manual and flash unit in computer automatic As for the ISO value, later versions of both the M8 and DMR firmware send a higher than set ISO to the flash to correct for the tendency to over exposure with flash. cpclee Posted May 5, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted May 5, 2009 Just got a note from the dealer and Leica USA that they won't be able to repair the DMR and the unit needs to spend 6-8 weeks in Germany. I'm glad that I had chosen not to wait for this one. In fact, I found another unit (at a lower price) and will pick it up this week. Thanks for all the help. cpclee Posted May 9, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted May 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The story has a good ending: I found a DMR at another dealer. This unit is in outstanding condition, works flawlessly, has just over 4000 exposures through it and, most importantly, is hundreds of dollars cheaper. I also got an R9 from the same dealer. Again in near mint condition and comes with a 1 year Leica Warranty. Very happy indeed!
