Stuf64 Posted April 22, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got my hands on an M4 with a 50mm 1.4 lens. I got so fed up with digital that I thought i'd give a try film in order to enjoy making real pictures again! Anyone in the same situation?

Efra1 Posted April 22, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 22, 2009 Wellcome Stuf64, I have another M4 and I have no words for the pleasure to fell shooting film again . Real Pictures.. I like that way
Joachim123 Posted April 22, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 22, 2009 I have an R4 which I really love. I have never used a digital camera. Dont even know how! I can see the advantages of digital, for example when shooting a wedding and the clients want to see the results right away. However, since I dont do weddings film works fine for me. The M4 coupled with good quality slide film will knock your socks off!!
jimbo953 Posted April 22, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 22, 2009 Just bought an MP today - after selling one to buy an M8. Just a bit tired of SD cards and battery chargers!
Guest Xing Posted April 22, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 22, 2009 I thought i'd give a try film in order to enjoy making real pictures again! The M4 is a great camera. The 50/1.4 is a great lens. Film is a great medium. Lots of food for intelligent discussion. But absurdly incongruous statements like the above just give the digital guys good reason to assert that film guys are a bunch of dolts.
MattLain Posted April 22, 2009 Share #6 Posted April 22, 2009 I find the M4 to be a great combination between modern M design, but still in-keeping with original philosophies behind the first Leica M's traditional machining. In my opinion it has the best of both worlds, and they're great user cameras in good condition. Is this antagonised discrimination between the digi and film 'clans' really worth anyone's time of day? put down the clubs and pick up some cameras - no matter what the media. Stuf64 Posted April 23, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted April 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the support, I still Shoot digital (D200) for regular stuff. But with time i found that I was not taking good care of composing my pictures when using digital. I just shoot many shots raw and spend way too much time editing! smiway Posted April 24, 2009 Share #8 Posted April 24, 2009 Hi Stuf64, I have an M8 which I have recently been using, but I miss the thrill of seeing analog pictures for the first time and I'm thinking of returning to my MP which I purchased a few years ago. There's something about film that I'm missing. Enjoy your new camera. Wayne R. Smith
NZDavid Posted April 24, 2009 Share #9 Posted April 24, 2009 ...with time i found that I was not taking good care of composing my pictures when using digital. I just shoot many shots raw and spend way too much time editing! Read this in a book on "digital scrapbooking": "...simply click and keep clicking. The more photos I take the more chance I have of taking a few that really captivate me." Also, there's advice on correcting exposure errors in Photoshop. Seems to me this just encourages a lazy approach. But are the pictures any better? I doubt it. Enjoy your M4. It will last at least as long as film is available. cannik Posted April 26, 2009 Share #10 Posted April 26, 2009 I threw up all my DSLR gears and divert back into film. I can't describe the happiness and satisfaction the output that give you and the process you are into while shooting in film/slide. my 8 element is another highlight of my recent purchase
EJohnE Posted April 26, 2009 Share #11 Posted April 26, 2009 The M4 was my favourite rangefinder camera. Enjoy yours. As far as film versus digital goes, I have DSLRs, a good R3MOT & a virtually new R8. Using film again is like going from a fast food diet to decent cooking. I still use the digital cameras, but actually enjoy having to be most careful again to get everything right in camera, and holding off until I develop B/W negs and scan them. John. Stuf64 Posted April 27, 2009 Author Share #12 Posted April 27, 2009 Thanks to all for the postings. I finally got the time to openend my Postal box with the M4 inside and guess what, it's an M6... It's in good shape and I shot two rolls over the week end, one Fuji Provia 100F and a roll of Ilford BW. I will have the results on Friday. It did not take me long to get use to it. Compared to my Nikon D200, I feel like I am inside the camera when I shoot with it. By the way, I am looking for a +2 dioptry correction lens for this M6, if anyone has a thread...
