Advertisement Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Hi bobkatz, Take a look here International "grading system"?... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted April 18, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 18, 2009 Don't think so. It's what you mention, mint, exc etc. The problem of course is that one persons 'mint' is anothers Exc- but if you buy from a dealer via mail order you have the right to return the goods if they aren't what you were expecting. dhsimmonds Posted April 20, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 20, 2009 Premier Leica dealers are scrupulous about their grading. A perfect example of a camera or lens may be graded exc++ rather than mint just because the original perfect shine has slightly dulled with use or age. Mint virtually means "as new". Lenses are inspected thoroughly with a jewellers eyepiece for signs of scratches, fungus or dust. I have seen a brand new lens right out of the box graded as Exc++ rather than mint just because the dealer on examining it noted a tiny particle of internal dust! He did agree that it would not make the slightest difference to it's optical performance but he felt that he couldn't sell it as "mint"! It couldn't be seen with the naked eye either! The bargains are often with "mint" whether they are ++,+ or even mint-!
