wparsonsgisnet Posted November 1, 2006 Share #21 Posted November 1, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I expect they had to make a guess at some point for the initial build and I saw figures of 50/50 for the initial build. That screetching noise you can hear is the brakes being applied to the silver chrome parts production line... And the sucking noise is coming from my wallet. Advertisement Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Hi wparsonsgisnet, Take a look here Good News from the UK. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Peter Branch Posted November 1, 2006 Share #22 Posted November 1, 2006 I have mine. Black. Delivered weight 2,090g. Packaging very high quality and ingenious but a real puzzle. Just as difficult to get the strap on the right way round and not twisted as any other M. No adaptor for use in Australia. With British adaptor the charger fits in the socket up-side-down so battery has to be inserted the other way. Rangefinder much less flare than my M6ttl. Feels absolutely right. Starting to load the software...... Anyone guessed that I'm only half an hour into the three hour wait while the battery charges!
jrc Posted November 1, 2006 Share #23 Posted November 1, 2006 I've gotten a message from Popflash that I will get mine on Saturday. Wish I could get a spare battery today, and start charging it. That three hours is going to be a killer. JC
Peter Branch Posted November 1, 2006 Share #24 Posted November 1, 2006 Starting to load the software...... That is interesting. Loaded Capture One LE, version 3.7.5, as supplied and immediately advised that there is an updated version, NB a complete new version not a fix, 3.7.6. One of the key qualities of this new version is Leica M8 Improvement. So it is not just the camera software version that one has to be careful about when evaluating the images. wparsonsgisnet Posted November 1, 2006 Share #29 Posted November 1, 2006 Why not ask the shop to charge it for you before you arrive? In the US a dealer won't open a box, because it then cannot be sold as new (read: price cut). It would be a great service, tho. I am hoping that the batter will have enough juice to insure that everything works.

Peter, this is the very same reason why you have to read the forum on daily basis;) Yesterday evening I already dropped a thread on this update. May I also remind you on Phase One upgrade policy. (with LE you have only free major upgrade and with PRO two. have a nice day Michiel
MSmelik Posted November 2, 2006 Share #31 Posted November 2, 2006 I was offered a chrome, which is available now, as opposed to my ordered black one ... apparantly the Black version will take another 2 weeks at least. I reclined the chrome version and will await my black. The lenses I picked up last week already.....
frc Posted November 2, 2006 Share #32 Posted November 2, 2006 Perhaps the luxury problem of having to wait three hours before use could be spent shooting a symbolic last roll of Tri-X on your old M. Who knows how long it'll be before you use that one again after the battery has been charged. ( only a bit little jealous ) My Amsterdan dealer has no clue when his shipments will arive. MSmelik Posted November 2, 2006 Share #33 Posted November 2, 2006 My dealer is in Amsterdam, but maybe not the same one (but then I thought there was only one), he has Chrome M8's in stock at this very moment. I just came from there to have a look at the chrome one he offered me.... and took it (boy am I weak) The chrome version actually looks beautifull "live" The first touch and feel is very very satisfying, it feels very solid and smooth as satin. Anyway he had another 2 in stock. The battery is currently loading and I am preparing my Mac with the needed software. I will definately go out later this evening and capture a few shots
marknorton Posted November 2, 2006 Author Share #34 Posted November 2, 2006 I agree about the chrome, photos don't do it justice and it's much more restrained than the silver of, for example, the D2. It is interesting though that for this initial build, they didn't skew it more towards black. About the only thing which I'm not 100% happy with is the shutter release which feels a bit rough or "gritty" as I've described it. Don't know how it is on the M7 but the M6 is much smoother - but then it only has one function instead of three.

That screetching noise you can hear is the brakes being applied to the silver chrome parts production line... Interesting My dealer tells me that there is significantly more interest in the Chrome Silver version than the black. I get mine on Wednesday and it is definitely in Chrome. This works for me because I have made a significant investment in Chrome/Silver lenses. At some point, I will probably get a black one as well but for now the chrome version works well for me. osera Posted November 3, 2006 Share #39 Posted November 3, 2006 I'll be getting chrome, but is there any rule against using a black lens on a chrome body? LOL
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 3, 2006 Share #40 Posted November 3, 2006 I am just kicking myself I turned down the silver yesterday, now i wait for the black one. I made someone happy by not taking it.
