jimbo035 Posted April 15, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 15, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) How many of my fellow Leica enthusiasts have seen or own a copy of this remarkable book in which Leica amateurs show their pictures ? I was fortunate enough to find a copy several years ago, and admit that despite its "antiquity" it has proved inspirational. There are many photographs in the Forum that IMHO couldt well find their way into a present-day version ... which, since the book was published (in 1937) is long overdue ! Book details : published by Photo-kino Verlag Hermann Elsner k-g (Berlin). 51 pages of text, 152 "plates" (aka photographs).
Advertisement Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Hi jimbo035, Take a look here "My Leica and I" by Kurt Peter Karfeld. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted April 15, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 15, 2009 I have never seen this book. You still get the german edition in second hand bookshops (on mail order). Has there been an edition in English?
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted April 15, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 15, 2009 Yes, >> My LEICA and I << is a very intesting book by a very early LEICA-addict. It´s wonderful to see this initial enthusiasm which still carries today to some extent at least. From time to time I have a look at my copy as well. I judt ordered one of the early Kruckenhauser books, published in 1940. It´s not in my hands so far, but I´am looking forward to it. A todays remake of >> My LEICA ...<< would have to fight against so many other attractive mediaevents that you would need a very brave investor to start such a project ... Unless you try a project of your own. Best

UliWer Posted April 15, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 15, 2009 searching for "My Leica and I" with Google found more English versions than German, leider muss ich sagen I am sure you find more English versions, if you search with the English title. If you search with "Karfeld+Meine Leica und ich" you find more German versions. Best address for second hand books (mainly but not exclusively in German) is: ZVAB - Zentrales Verzeichnis Antiquarischer Bücher (antiquarische und vergriffene Bücher online bestellen) This is no seller but the central index of dealers of second hand books. Guest flatfour Posted April 16, 2009 Share #9 Posted April 16, 2009 Whilst My Leica and I is a very good book I think Andre Kertesz book "Of Paris and New York" is perhaps the best in my small collection. He has an incredible eye - i wish I could just match a bit of it. It has now become slightly rare but there are still one or two copies that appear in auctions. I can thoroughly recommend it.
