dritz Posted April 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just heard that for us Americans, travel restrictions to Cuba are being relaxed. I recall there being one prominent member of this forum in Cuba. Perhaps we can support him in helping us organize an outing this fall? Anyone? I'd love to go but the restrictions have only been lifted for Cubans residing in the US who have relatives in Cuba. When the walls come down in the US and travel is unrestricted I'm there. When the walls come down in the US and travel is unrestricted I'm there. Very easy to go. Fly to the Bahamas, go to Cuba, fly back to Bahamas & go home. You will enjoy each leg. Make sure to ask the Cubans not to stamp the passport. Bring a few dineros to disperse. Small stuff. No problem, mon!
Joachim123 Posted April 15, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 15, 2009 I dont understand the big deal. Americans have been going to Cuba for years. Its simple, the Cuban Immigration only have you fill out a tourist card. They do not stamp your passport. Then when you leave you just hand in the tourist card. No questions asked. Heres how Americans have been doing it for years. Most fly to Toronto or other Canadian city then fly directly to Cuba. The other alternative is either to fly to the Dominican Republic then catch a flight to Cuba. No big deal, they have been secretly doing it for years. I was there in 1983 and had no problems whatsoever. It's a bit like walking back in time where faded glory comes to mind and where they have almost made an industry out of keeping cars from yesteryear on the road Arthur UK

marknorton Posted April 15, 2009 Share #8 Posted April 15, 2009 Yes it's arch hypocracy - the US bangs on about human rights in Tibet and then prevents its own citizens visiting Cuba. When I went, we had to go via Gander, Newfoundland to refuel, then on to San Jose in Costa Rica and finally to Havana.
glenerrolrd Posted April 15, 2009 Share #9 Posted April 15, 2009 A few friends and myself had planned to do a trip to Cuba next week . A medical problem caused us to defer the trip. In planning the trip ...one concern that we did not resolve...emergency medical care. Cuba is well known for its excellent health care system and they have provided a tourist hospital in Havana . But.....and this is more important to Americans .....its cash only no health insurance. Americans can not draw funds using a american bank card. Finally .....evacuation to the USA for emergency medical treatment looks unlikely. Of course ..this is a pretty inconsistent concern for individuals that enjoy street shooting at night. But after listening to a close friend tell his story of being medivac from the Pakistan-India border to a major city heart center and then being restricted form leaving India for 2 weeks . Since both of the other travelers had had heart attacks within the last year....we concluded that maybe we should wait.

I did a tour of Cuba about five years ago and enjoyed it immensely. Don't remember having any trouble charging batteries. Maybe I was just lucky.
