farnz Posted April 14, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 14, 2009 I'll 'second' Regedit's suggestion. I've been using the Ricoh LC-1 cap for about a fortnight now and I wouldn't go back. I've also acquired one of the cheapy, after-market, I-bet-you-didn't-know-it's-not-real-leather Leica lookalike cases and cut the flap off so my DL4 can be unholstered and ready to shoot in about 3 seconds. (Of course Doc Holiday would be quicker than this but no one sees him round much anymore. ) The other good thing to note is that the DL4 still comfortably fits into the official leather Leica case with the Ricoh LC-1 cap on. bill Posted April 14, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 14, 2009 My sympathies. My original cap sits happily back in the box. I bought a couple of cheapo plastic slip on caps at a camera fair a few weeks ago - 50p - if I lose them I really don't care. Regards, Bill
Nicoleica Posted April 14, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 14, 2009 Sorry if this has been answered previously but I've lost my D-Lux 4 lens cap and would like to replace it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Also, any ideas for how to keep the lens cap around? I use the little lanyard that came with my lens cap to attach it firmly to the strap lug on the side of the camera. That way it's always secure and I don't have to worry about loosing it. Fitting instructions are shown on page 10 of the manual. :)
picturelady Posted April 14, 2009 Share #6 Posted April 14, 2009 I have mine attached also to the camera and am wondering how people are loosing the lens cap when it is securely held onto the camera.

toddbee Posted April 14, 2009 Share #8 Posted April 14, 2009 does anyone know if it will still fit in the leica leather case with the auto lens cap?
formernikon Posted April 14, 2009 Share #9 Posted April 14, 2009 I could definitely see myself losing that cap pretty quickly. About 5 minutes out of the box and that lanyard/cap was attached to the camera.
farnz Posted April 14, 2009 Share #10 Posted April 14, 2009 does anyone know if it will still fit in the leica leather case with the auto lens cap? Which are you calling the auto cap? If it's the Ricoh LC-1 cap please refer to my earlier post in this thread. Pete.
RPS Posted April 15, 2009 Share #11 Posted April 15, 2009 If you use the Ricoh LC-1 cap you don't even have to take it off so there's no question of losing it. Pete. Pete: are you at all worried about the Ricoh LC-1 cap causing wear marks on the lens housing as the lens moves in and out? In the video referenced above (i.e. Life is Good!: Ricoh LC1 auto lens cap on Leica D-Lux 4 and Panasonic LX3) as I watch the lens cap in operation it seems to me there will be a certain amount of unacceptable wear and tear over time. farnz Posted April 16, 2009 Share #12 Posted April 16, 2009 Robert, No, not at all, because the 'barn door' segments of the cap are quite lightly sprung and the lens housing only comes into contact with the smooth surface of the tape on the back of the barn doors. I would imagine, for example, that over the long term there might be more wear caused by the sprung lugs on the standard Leica cap contacting the insides of the removable filter ring. In either instance I would expect that the anodised metal surfaces should withstand a great deal of contact with the tape or the plastic, sprung lugs before showing signs of wear. (Perhaps the D-Lux 8 will have been released by the time that occurs. ) Pete.
carlos diaz Posted April 20, 2009 Author Share #13 Posted April 20, 2009 Hello all, I'm just getting around to reading these and thank you to all BUT to be clear, I would like to replace the Leica D-lux 4 lens cap with an original. Does anyone sell just the lens cap for the D-lux 4? Thanks and sorry for the confusion. Carlos

cstevens Posted August 18, 2009 Share #19 Posted August 18, 2009 Yes, I tried that, i have some of those felt spots, but wherever I located them they didnt push the doors out enough...I couldnt really see in any photos the ideal location for them though, so maybe they are in the wrong location or just not thick enough.
