Advertisement Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Hi giggy, Take a look here Dlux4 & Sandisk Ultra II 16Gb . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Nicoleica Posted April 12, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 12, 2009 Hi, welcome to the forum. Is it possible that you may have accidentally unlatched the battery when you put the 16Gb card in? It is possible to do this, and still close the hatch. Try opening the hatch, replacing the battery, making sure it's firmly latched, closing the hatch and then see if it works. Good luck. giggy Posted April 12, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted April 12, 2009 Thank you for your answer. But it did not work. The battery is perfectly hatched, but the camera will just not turn on. I tried switching memory cards, from the Sandisk 16Gb to a Kingston 8Gb and here the camera comes back to life.... Please more help!! Thanks G
Nicoleica Posted April 12, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 12, 2009 Hi. Sorry to hear that it wasn't something simple. If your camera works fine with other cards, then I think the problem must be with the card itself. Very strange though, I've never heard of that problem before. Are you able to try that card in another camera to see if it gives problems there? I'd suggest that you may wish to take the card back to the dealer for replacement. ceflynn Posted April 12, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 12, 2009 If you have a card reader, put the Sandisk 16 GB card into the card reader, and use your disk utility to check its format and disk directory.
giggy Posted April 12, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted April 12, 2009 Thanks for new answers. So I tried the other identical card, another Sandisk Ultra II 16GB and it worked woderfully. Recognized by the camera, recognized by the card reader.... So my first card might be damaged, but since I bought it at B&H in NY before starting my trip to Europe without testing it, now I dont know what to do with it... Oh well! If anyone has some farther suggestions, please let me know. Thank you all.
roberts2424 Posted April 12, 2009 Share #7 Posted April 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) It shouldn't have anything to do with the 16gb cards. (Some cameras have trouble using anything over 8gb in the point and shoot style.) My D-Lux4 is running the 32GB Kingston SD. So, the problem may be elsewhere. giggy Posted April 13, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted April 13, 2009 you are right Roberts, the problem is in the particular card. It seems to be broken or damaged. Thank you all for your comments.
Mystic Posted April 13, 2009 Share #9 Posted April 13, 2009 If you tried to format the card without any success then I would try to give it back to the dealer.
cshamis Posted April 18, 2009 Share #10 Posted April 18, 2009 Giggy: Are both 16GB cards exactly the same models? --Is it possible that the one that doesn't work is an SDHC card? Does anybody know if the Dlux4 is SDHC compliant? Cards with the SDHC logo are not backwards compatible in older cameras and readers. Meaning you have to have a reader and camera that *specifically* supports SDHC cards... SDHC equipment, of course, has no trouble reading the older (regular) SD cards. I recently found this out when I purchased an 8GB SDHC card for my Digilux2. That said, anybody know anyone who wants a SanDisk Extremem III 30MB/sec 8GB Card for cheap? Nicoleica Posted April 18, 2009 Share #11 Posted April 18, 2009 Hi Cshamis, Yes, the D-Lux 4 is SDHC compatible. It should accept all cards up to 32Gb without any problems. I regularly feed 4Gb and 8Gb cards to mine. To get the best performance though, high-speed cards are preferred. Especially if shooting HD video.
