jevidon Posted April 11, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Many forum users ask from time to time what is so special about a Leica. The question is answered, sometimes well, and sometimes derisively. I came across this article from the New Yorker magazine dated 9-24-2007 which says it about as well as anything I've read or heard elsewhere. IMO, it says it all. Just copy and paste in your browser. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2007/09/24/070924fa_fact_lane?currentPage=all[/b]] A Critic at Large: Candid Camera: Reporting & Essays: The New Yorker

doug_m Posted April 11, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 11, 2009 Yes, this is a great article. I think its been previously discussed on the forum but am not sure. I also think every Leica dealer should have free reprints prominently on view in their stores. The article epitomizes the mystique and why we Leica nuts are so devoted. As I began to read it I was certain the author was a long time Leica user but it turns out that I was wrong, which is a credit to just how well its written. The New Yorker has many of the best writers in the world.

rafael_macia Posted April 14, 2009 Share #8 Posted April 14, 2009 A good (probably great), article. Good to pass on as a way of explaining using Leica

marknorton Posted April 14, 2009 Share #10 Posted April 14, 2009 I wonder if the people in Leica would still - if they ever did - describe Stephen K Lee as "genial". I agree, a good article which explains well what makes Leicas - and the M especially - special. Compulsory reading for the Non-Believers...
Finnkare Posted May 9, 2009 Share #11 Posted May 9, 2009 A nice article, but the finish was a bit incoherent. I didn't quite understand the all-digital "field testing" when 90% of the article was about film Leicas...
andybarton Posted May 9, 2009 Share #12 Posted May 9, 2009 Discussed at length at the time Should show if you do a search for "New Yorker" on this forum
rob_x2004 Posted May 9, 2009 Share #13 Posted May 9, 2009 Jevidon, theres nothing wrong with your address you just doubled, trippled up on http:// If you use the insert link button (world with chain link icon) the forum software throws open a dialogue box that already has http:// and you either cut and paste 'over' this, or delete the highlighted http:// then copy and paste from your browser address bar. Then you can link to your hearts content:D.
