vertekijker Posted April 5, 2009 Share #24 Posted April 5, 2009 MIke, I have seen many images of the Himba with the red coloring of their skin - it was a good decision to make this a black and white portrait. It makes for a very strong image. -------------------------- Frans
michali Posted April 6, 2009 Author Share #25 Posted April 6, 2009 Thank you very much for your comments, I really appreciate the feedback, it's always so encouraging. It's scanned from a print. Pre ASPH 50? I kind of like how it is working in the bright light and managing the dark skin. Can we see the uncropped? You are beginning to get a lot of artifacts and erase/burn? marks. Really interesting part of town you get to see. Will this sort of thing get lost, do these people have a future? Rob, yes it's a 1956 Summicron f2.0. These people live in one of the most inaccessible, inhospitable and harsh environments on the planet. As things stand at present they continue to lead their nomadic life and move freely between Namibia and Angola without being harassed by either government, they're not subject border controls etc. There is a higher than average (for Africa) infant mortality rate. I would say that their survival is presently not threatened.

azzo Posted April 6, 2009 Share #28 Posted April 6, 2009 MIKE, Nice to see the uncropped version... ..and now that we see it, I wouldn't crop this one. The woman's centre position, her side glance and that magnificent backdrop works as is IMHO !
michali Posted April 6, 2009 Author Share #29 Posted April 6, 2009 Marie-Louise- Thank you, your comments are always appreciated. Ivan- Thank you for the feedback, I tend to agree with you on this, my only reason for cropping was that I felt she was too centered in the image, almost too structured if I can say that.
