leicanut2 Posted April 1, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 1, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well before I order this I wana make sure I am getting the right one. The Milich adapter for the voighlander 15mm is it the LTM8 From what he sent me my adaper may leak light l because of the step on it and the LTM8 does not have this step. My other question is does it have the recesses cut in and how much of a pain is it to code? Anyone get his filter adapter for the 15mm? Anyone get the LTM8 adapter? doubice Posted April 2, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 2, 2009 Jan, All my LTM to M adapters are the original Leitz-made ones and all have the 'step'. All had the recesses cut by John Milich and none 'leak' any light. Coding is simple - fill the recesses with white and black paint, as per this page: Leica M8 Lens Codes Code the 15mm Heliar as the WATE - the first lens on the above list. I am using the Milich hood/UV/IR filter adapter with a Leica 39mm UV/IR filter on my Heliar and set the lens recognition to ON + UV/IR. When you mount the lens, the camera will ask you which lens should be set (16mm, 18mm or 21mm) - I use the 16mm setting but you can also experiment with the 18mm setting. Best, Jan (the other one)
farnz Posted April 2, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 2, 2009 ... My other question is does it have the recesses cut in and how much of a pain is it to code? ... Jan (the first one ), Yes the LTM8 has the recesses (or pits) milled into it. Coding can be a little painful until you discover the right paints to fill the pits with. As you probably know, there are many threads here about the types of paint people have used but I found that Humbrol matte black and white enamel paints worked for me and are available (in the UK at least) in tiny 14 ml tins quite cheaply. Mark Pope Posted April 2, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 2, 2009 Does it matter which framelines are brought up? I assume it doesn't as the camera firmware asks you to select the focal length when a 15mm is coded as a WATE. I ask because IIRC, when I read Mark Norton's 'Anatomy of a Leica M8' thread, there was a switch that was actuated when the frame lines change - so when a MATE was fitted, the camera knew which focal length was selected by the user. It would also mean that in addition to the 6 bits available on the lens (32 permuations) you get another 3 bits (512 permutations) for lens codes. Just out of interest, what framelines are brought up by a WATE when it's fitted? If it does matter, I do hope 28/90 is the correct frameline... Cheers Mark
Photon42 Posted April 2, 2009 Share #6 Posted April 2, 2009 I've successfully coded the voigtländer as a 21 ASPH (using the LTM8 28-90 adapter). Works very well. No need to choose a WATE focal length. I've used black nail varnish and some white color for coding. I guess the white color can be omitted. I'm unsure about the framelines and the WATE. Normally, the proper framelines do matter with coding, AFAIK. Regards Ivo
