Here are two snaps that I took from the DLux3 which rode in my pocket while mainly shooting the M5 at an old mining town in Arizona.

For a P&S of this size, I'm happy. PS. These were accidently shot at ISO 400 vs. 100.

I have had my D-Lux 3 for two days and only shot indoors. While I love the handling I am worried about noise, even at ISO 100.

How do you guys cope with that? The pictures of the mining town and the blue pond look like they have no noise at all.

Thanks for a little hint.

Shoot RAW and don't underexpose. When I've shot jpegs indoors, I set the camera at ISO 200 and used the max anti-shake setting. It really helps.

Shot on the way home the same day:

In low light it might help to shoot in B/W too. Or desaturating. I always find noise more acceptable that way. Shot with D-lux 1 in very poor light.

I am in no way a technocrat and there fore am not able to judge these photos in terms of technical quality, I look at the ease of use compared to the results. The DLuy is surely a sleek and sexy little camera, the useability is Ok, it's compact and will fit into any pocket you have available. The results however do dissapoint a bit. Shooting anything above 200 is ugly noised... But I guess for snapshots it's a fine camera, little expensive for a snapshot camera though. It replaces my canon 3mp (3yr. old) always take with me and is a major improvement to that.

The excess in money for the Leica is easily compensated by the utter pleasure you get from just fondling and looking at it :-)

Like lot's of people here I am awaiting my M8, until then I will continue shooting with my digilux and try to get the hang of digital imaging post processing, as for the more "needing" shots I will use my trusted old M4 and 35mm lens and get my hands, and clothes for that matter, covered in HC110 solution ..... I wish computers would smell like darkrooms ;-)

BTW. I noticed a comment about the sharpness, this is the only thing that bother me me digital cameras, they are all so sharp, I am trying to figure out a way to get nice looking but not 100% sharp pictures (it's the digital sharpness I talk about... apauling form of sharpness)

Anyway I found drinking a bottle of Ol' Jack the previous evening helps to cut down on sharpness, but there must be other ways :-)
