wparsonsgisnet Posted October 26, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I confess to taking a nap. My M8 is due "pretty soon now" and I have walked by much fall foliage (fall is late around Boston thisyear -- lots of leaves still on the trees), D2 in hand, resisting taking pictures. I have had a wonderful 2 3/4 years with the D2 and have produced images that improve continually. But, it's gonna be a lot better: double the data, double the fun (to satirize the Doublemint ads); r-e-a-l lenses; an M feel to shooting; no electonic lag; and, last but not least, some new software. All of this has me waiting rather than shooting. I do have some things that I will be shooting, but I'm definitely postponing discretionary (read: playing) shooting. How fortunate that the cat that is coming out of the bag is all good news. Regards,
Advertisement Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Hi wparsonsgisnet, Take a look here M8 is keeping me from taking pix. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
johnbuckley Posted October 27, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2006 I know exactly how you feel, Bill. I can't even take my D2 out. I am shooting film with my M7 -- but only because I want to try out mynew 24 Elmarit, which I got in anticipation of the M8. When, oh when, will we get the word it is shipping... John, I also got the 24mm f2.8, in my case based upon images from Sean Reid's review of the 24/25 lenses from Leica and Zeiss. Last one there ... I'll post shots in a couple (?) of weeks when the M8 arrives. Regards,

Regards, Hi Bill, Snap out of it my friend...<G> We know "neither the day nor the hour" so it's best to keep on working with the D2 every day -- new pictures every day. Technology may march on but pictures are always going to be pictures. I'd use an Instamatic if it was all I had at hand. Cheers, Sean
peterb Posted October 27, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 27, 2006 I think I'm going to study to be a D2 therapist to help all those soon to be neglected D2s cope once their owners take up an M8. Then with all the profits I make from distraught D2s seeking help, I will be able to purchase an M8 plus a 24mm, 50mm Noct. and a 75 Cron! The Nikon dSLRs are taking a siesta!
peterv Posted October 27, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 27, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Very recognisable! Both my Contax G's are just sitting there, although I still have about 75 rolls of film in stock... I'd much rather save money for my upcoming M8 + 50 'Lux than spend € 10,- on developing and 500Kb scans... I agree with Sean though. A couple of photo's a day keep the doctor away... Luckily I still have my D Lux 2! Cheers, peter
Guest stnami Posted October 27, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 27, 2006 ... it seems that it is a case of camera being more important then the image......... or was it the image that the camera portrays of the owner to others....... then again...... stunsworth Posted October 27, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 27, 2006 My advice would be to go out and take the photogaphs. You're missing photographs that will never be there again.

albertwang Posted October 27, 2006 Share #11 Posted October 27, 2006 Nope, the existence of the M8 hasn't prevented me from shooting pictures. I'm picking up another Olympus lens while I'm at it!
sean_reid Posted October 27, 2006 Share #12 Posted October 27, 2006 I think Bill is describing something that happens to a lot of people but he's being very honest in admitting how much the camera itself can influence one's enthusiasm for photography. We associate the pictures with the camera and if one loses enthusiasm for the camera... In any case, I still believe in the "make pictures every day" approach but I understand exactly what Bill is talking about. Cheers, Sean
vic vic Posted October 27, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 27, 2006 sean - of course i understand what u say and maybe even what bill says.. i dont know bill - maybe he is great photographer anyway - who knows? anyway - im sure u all understand that my reponses sometimes come from what i would call - "balancing things" and putting things in some proportion... bill - my excuses if this one comes with my reply on your expense... wparsonsgisnet Posted October 27, 2006 Author Share #14 Posted October 27, 2006 I am expecting that the D2 will become a backup camera -- HOWEVER -- I'm gonna miss the capabilities that the zoom lens gave me. If I need fast shooting that would be facilitated by the zoom, then it'll be in use for that. While I'm "napping," I'm thinking about my kit. I expect to carry the (new, used) 24mm and my 35mm f1.4 asph with the M8. I plan to use my 50mm DR (hooray!) lens more than I have been, and for that purpose expect to get some high-iso shooting, as it's only an f2.0 lens. I also have a 50mm f1.4 asph, a 75 f1.4, and a 90mm f2.0. Initially, I think I'll be carrying the 24, 35, 50DR, and 75 with me. Last night and this morning I was trying to visualize shallow DOF as I wandered around my house. What a lot of bokeh it'll be. I have been whining for a long time about the arrival of a body that takes prime lenses, and now I'm thinking I'll miss the zoom capability. With this much irony in my life, it's better to nap. At least I'm contemplating taking pictures instead of installing some new piece of hardware or software on my computer.
