MPerson Posted March 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am looking to buy an older 35 lens. I currently have a Summicron 35 f2 ASPH, a Nokton 40 f1.4 Single Coated for my MP and with my CL kit I have the wonderful Summicron-C 40 and the 90 for portrait. These all meet my current needs and I much prefer working with 35 & 40 lense range. Now I would like to try an older version of a Leica 35 but I do not have the knowledge to know the difference between the model lines, the years which versions were produced and whether the optics are multicoated, single coated or not coated. Searching the net has probably left me more confused! I did find a comparison by Jim Arnold done some years ago of the Summicron 35 f2 ASPH and the version 4 model which was interesting Jim Arnold I would prefer not to have the discussion of which is the better lens. I am just trying to get my head round the models and versions first and then move on to check prices and results for each lens. I would be particularly interested in uncoated optics if that's possible.

The product line history is complex, but if you are searching for the above, the choices are simple : - Elmar 35 f 3,5 : if with good glass (and this isn't so easy to find) is a typical old style lens - Summaron 35 f 3,5 (it can indeed be a coated one) : as for myself, is the best choice when you like something that is undoubtly quite different from a Summicron asph. These will give me a start in looking at the various models. Strange I went to Cameraquest but never found that page. Thank you again.
