The Northern-lights experiment failed abysmally but shooting some stars was fun. This is clearly not optimal due to slight haze + there were plenty of other light sources around.

M8 summicron 28/2 ASPH, 4sec, ISO1250, tripod, self-timer at 2s

I think I see your point that the foliage makes it more interesting than a sky only shot. I must admit I am getting more and more impressed with the M8 for this sort of work. Living in the centre of town does not provide ample opportunities to experiment with this.
