pauledell Posted March 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I have recently acquired a Dlux4 and am thrilled with it. I finally have a compact digital camera with exceptional IQ. I have found the camera to be as nearly as intuitive to use as the M-6 cameras I have had for years.I am now taking image more spontaneously One question though, the camera was furnished with a neck strap and I am wondering if it will fit in the dedicated leather case that is available. I don't like wrist straps and want to continue using the neck strap. Thanks. Paul

Paul The case for my D-Lux 4 had a slip of paper inside which says " Please note: The Leica case must not be used together with the strap supplied with the D-Lux 4 - doing so would lead the camera body being scratched and would not allow the case to be closed properly. Instead, please use the wrist strap supplied with the case". I started out using the neck strap and used a small Lowe-Pro case instead of the D-Lux 4 one. Then I took it off and am using the wrist-strap - less conspicuous on the street, and so have a choice between the Lowe-pro and the leather one, depending on whether I'm adding an accessory such as a viewfinder, spirit level, table tripod..... USA road racer Posted March 9, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 9, 2009 I didn't care for the neck strap that came with my DLux4 either! So, I ordered a strap that fit my Leica Ultravid 10X25 binoculars. It is just made from the nylon webbing as in the actual connection to the camera on the supplied neck strap. It does go from 1/4 " to 1/2" or so where it would make contact behind the neck. Not stiff and can be wound tightly around the camera with no problem. You can wrap it around your wrist for use as a wrist strap. Cost was $15 USD from Leica USA. Works for me! Just for your information, the Ultravid binoculars weigh MORE than the DLux4 does! No problem with strength here. Hope this may be of some help. fotografr Posted March 9, 2009 Share #4 Posted March 9, 2009 I use the case constantly (with the top half detached) and really like it. In winter, I put it over my shoulder then put a coat on over it so the camera is always with me. In summer, I expect I'll lengthen the strap a bit and loop it over my head and one shoulder. I like the extra protection the case affords the camera, as well as the accessibility it provides. It's also much less prone to being lost or stolen than if I just carried it loose in a pocket. pauledell Posted March 9, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted March 9, 2009 Jimbo, "Usa Road Racer", Brent, Thanks for your response. I too, am not impressed with the neckstrap. I may consider the wrist strap. Where can I get the one made for D-lux 4? I don't find any at B&W except for the C lux models. Paul

Some possible confusion here, as I was speaking of the free (leather) case that came with my camera; that has no "top half" as such, just a one-piece "flap" which is a continuation of the back of the case and not detachable. Bought separately I believe they are priced at around 60-70 GBP.

Dear Jimbo035, why should the plastic strap scratch the camera body, when in the leather case, I'm using it in this way, it would fit because of the the case is so "loose" (it's not a hard case as by the c-models).
