Hello

I have a problem wit my Imacon Flextight Precision II scanner and I'd really appreciate some help. I've searched the web but I didn't find anything to solve my problem.

I have connected the scanner to the computer using SCSI port, Ratoc adapter and a simple SCSI/USB converter cable. The scanner appears in Flexcolor (v.4.0.3 but I've tried 3.2.7 attached to my scanner and it works as well) listed in the Devices (File>Devices). When I press the Preview or Scan button an error window appears with the message "Scanner not found".

I have installed the drivers supplied with the scanners, however after the installation there appears another error message in Windows drivers installer with "Code 10". I am from Poland so the rest of the message is in polish but it says that the scanner cannot be used.

I don't know what to do and I'd really appreciate your help, guys.

By the way, I'm running Windows XP Professional.

Regards,

Tom

Just checking one very simple error possibility:

You have to turn on the scanner before starting up the computer so as to allow the computer to locate the scanner and then the FlexColor software to load whatever software it needs to "handshake" with the scanner. Till then I believe the scanner is blinking.

Else, try to mail or call Goecker Professional Imaging in Denmark which I believe is the main repair facility (they live on the opposite side of the street of the then Imacon). Telephone +4535821100 and I think it is Frank who is the main expert. Service of the Imacon scanners is not expensive at all. I think I've gotten mine repaired for less than 100$ throughout the last five years ;-)

Another resource is the Hasselblad.de site where I guess they have FAQ and support sites for old and current scanners.

Hope this helps.

Another advice:

The old Apple G4 400 Mhz machine is a perfect match for the Imacon SCSI-scanners. Those computers you can often get for free or very little money. I have one of those running my Imacon exclusively so that it's a screen and scanner next to my main working station that does that scanning work.

Tom:

Your problem may be the USB to SCSI adapter. I don't have any first hand experience, but when the Macs left out the SCSI port on a generation change, most of these adapters did not work with scanners. It may be that they are intended for SCSI drives and the whole SCSI command set is not programmed into them.

If you machine is a desptop, a SCSI card is probably the best solution, or if you do not have the option of installing a card, try calling the dealer noted above and see if they can suggest an adapter solution.

The best resource for Imacon help on the web is the yahoo group imaconusers. There are many messages on that group regarding the Ratoc adapters. You may find your question already answered.

I know the Ratoc requires a particular old firmware version to work with the Imacon scanners. You can download that firmware from the Ratoc site. See this ratoc faq for info on how to flash a newer adapter with the necessary old firmware.

These are are very nice scanners, I hope you can get it working.

Until later,

Clyde
