Starting today (March 3rd 2009) the new Leica M8 Firmware 2.004 is available for download. The new firmware supports new lenses (NOCTILUX and SUPER-ELMAR 18mm) and brings the discrete mode for all LEICA M8 cameras! Now the delayed shutter cocking action is available in combination with all LEICA M8 cameras. At the lower end of the menu list a new menu point "Advance" has been added with the options "Standard" and "Discrete". The Leica information about this firmware says "we have received numerous requests from customers", asking for the delayed shutter cocking action in combination with the LEICA M8". I'm sure most of these requests came from the forum and the forum members. For me this proves that Leica takes its customers seriously, listens to them and can change a decision once made - if its in the interest of their customers! This decision by Leica is discussed here.
