R Extenders Question

What extender would work with the current 80-200/4? Is there anything other than the current APO models that would work?

Those current models would cost more then the lens and would force me to sell my son into slavery (if I had any children). Now, you parents, don't be getting any ideas.

I'm really thinking of a 1.4x, because I don't think I could afford the loss of two stops of speed. But I've heard some chatter about some of the extenders not working on certain lenses, ect.

Thanks in advance.

Steve -

I've been using an APO 2X extender with my 80-200 since 2000 and am exceptionally pleased with the results. Perhaps you can get a used one at a good rate since so many people and dealers seem to be dumping their R systems.

The x2 extender seems to be relatively common on the used market (mostly in 3-cam version, but even the APO isn't rare) unlike the x1.4 one.

In any event, according to Leica's site, the x2 appears to be the sole compatible extender with the 80-200mm/4
