billh Posted October 29, 2006 Share #61 Posted October 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sean, The ISO1250 shot of the olive oil and bananas leaves nothing to desire in my view. Of course jpeg attenuate the noise, but still, it would be hard to complain about it. The black and white samples look very noisy. Did you sharpen those samples, or are they unsharpened? If so, it would be interesting to see the finished files (like you would complete them for web viewing). I have a 50mm Summilux with a Canon adapter which I will be happy to wing your way if you have any desire to use it. I notice you are using the 24 and 28 - any significant differences or preferences between them? I own the 21 ASPH, so will try that first, then probably go with the 28 Summicron. Are there any other brands in that focal range with a similar aperture? Thanks, Bill

Thanks for the offer to loan the lens, maybe we can do something with that in the future. I have both 28s (2.0 and 2.8) here as well as the 24. In terms of their performance, I don't have a preference. In terms of FOV, I've liked the 28s but that's very much a personal choice. Could you clarify your last question? Cheers, Sean

Cheers, Sean Hi Sean, I wondered if you saw any/much image quality difference between the 24 ASPH and the 28 f2.8 ASPH? The second part of my question was asking if anyone besides Leica makes a lens in the 24 to 28mm range with an aperture of f2.8 or faster. If they do, are you planning to comment on the comparison to the Leica lenses in a future update, or do you have impressions you care to share now? Sometime last year I shot resolution charts with film and digital. In absolute terms, it appeared the film had higher resolution - however, it was not as simple as that....as the lp/mm increased, the black and white spaces became progressively more indistinct. If several of us were counting the lines, we would probably all come up with a different resolution figure. The digital, on the other hand, was either on or off - there were distinct black and white lines with cleanly delineated edges. Any ten people would come up with the same number. Furthermore, the digital looked a lot sharper because of this cleanliness. So, with that background, I wonder how important maximum resolution really is on a 10MP sensor? Might other facets of a lenses performance be more important?
