Advertisement Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Hi spylaw4, Take a look here LULM - Group for London and SE Area Members. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robert_parker Posted February 18, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 18, 2009 Brian That sounds like a good idea - what do you have to do to join ??

earleygallery Posted February 19, 2009 Share #6 Posted February 19, 2009 A word of caution.......a newish poster here PM'd me because of a comment I made. The gist of it was that we are a group of people who know each other and will tend to shun 'outsiders'. Nothing could be further from the truth of course, and I was thinking of posting a 'new member's' meeting to encourage some of the newer contributors to the forum to join in without feeling that they are gatecrashing some kind of private members club. That said, I'm in!!
andybarton Posted February 19, 2009 Share #7 Posted February 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) That's my concern. We have known each other through this forum for many years now, so it can feel like that. It's just what happens with mature internet forums. But, I do know that the London "group" often have newer members attending meetings and in the NW, we even befriended Rolo, and he supports United It goes without saying, all are welcome! Peter Lea Posted February 19, 2009 Share #8 Posted February 19, 2009 Sounds interesting - I'd like to give it a try. Peter Lea
biglouis Posted February 19, 2009 Share #9 Posted February 19, 2009 Why not join the Leica Users London Meetings Group? For London forum members and those within reach of London for meetings outings etc. I've joined it but what does it do? spylaw4 Posted February 19, 2009 Author Share #10 Posted February 19, 2009 I take the opportunity to encourage new members whenever possible with occasional results. James' idea of a "new members" meeting is an excellent idea - but I feel that a more direct means of contacting potential attendees than simply posting a notie in the Meetings Forum is needed. I"ll look into that - but in the meantime - any thoughts on how to drum up support?
robert_parker Posted February 19, 2009 Share #11 Posted February 19, 2009 I"ll look into that - but in the meantime - any thoughts on how to drum up support? How about that famous Somerset / Devon technique of 'The Press Gang' ? Basically a bunch of guys show up from Fleet Street and drag people in as they pass by... spylaw4 Posted February 19, 2009 Author Share #12 Posted February 19, 2009 If that was tried randomly it would be the Canikon Users Mob! Or the P&S P*ss-artists.
gravastar Posted February 19, 2009 Share #13 Posted February 19, 2009 I see that when you join you do have the option of leaving the group, unlike a press gang . I live within 60 miles of London with a 5 minute walk to the train station and a direct service every 30 mins, so why not. Bob.
spylaw4 Posted February 20, 2009 Author Share #14 Posted February 20, 2009 I assumed you would join, Bob!
dhsimmonds Posted February 20, 2009 Share #15 Posted February 20, 2009 How about that famous Somerset / Devon technique of 'The Press Gang' ? Yep, but you would need a few Queen's shillings and glass bottomed tankards, not to mention copious quantities of free beer! Times are now very 'ard since the time of good Queen Bess No.1 !! Oh, and the Press Gang was known to operate in Portsmouth Southampton and Poole as well as the West Country, so there's another 'ampshire potential group to compete with the London and Northern mobs! andybarton Posted February 20, 2009 Share #16 Posted February 20, 2009 Is there a Northern Mob? If so, maybe they should set up a group as well.
