canica Posted February 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Gurus, I'm using 5D MarkII and I'm planning to buy the super wide lens and I've Summarit-R 50mm f2 right now. I'm considering Elmarit-R 19mm and Canon 16-35mm f2.8 II. I used it major for landscape but sometimes for snapshot. Of course, they have different style and distortion. Any thought for the caption? Please advise!! Best Regards, Canica
Advertisement Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Hi canica, Take a look here Elmarit-R 19mm f2.8 Vs Canon 16-35 f2.8 II . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Theodor Heinrichsohn Posted February 13, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 13, 2009 Only the first version of the 19mm Elmarit R will work on the Canon, as far as I know. The mirror catches on the second version - at least it did on my 5D and does on my 1DS III. I do not particularly like the 16-36 Canon zoom. In any case, it is advisable to have your camera and Canon lenses adjusted to each other by Canon or a competent mechanic. My 1DS III and the lenses perform much better after the adjustment. I like the way the old 19mm Elmarit draws but that is a personal preference. The second version has higher contrast. Teddy
Overgaard Posted February 13, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 13, 2009 The first version needs to be fixed but it can be done. I don't know who does it, but I'm sure others can advice. I have the first one and want the second one which is sharper all over (and one of the all-time greatest Leica lenses). The first one has some fringing when shooting against the sun (and I love to do that ;-)
Mauribix Posted February 13, 2009 Share #4 Posted February 13, 2009 Isn't there the 16-35 Leica Zoom lens as well? Dunno if works on Eos FF cameras, but if I remember well it's an outstanding performer!

Best Regards, Canica I know two brands who offer adaptors for Leica lenses to Canon EOS: Novoflex (€ 149) and Brenner , page 50 of their actual catalogue). Perhaps Zörkendörfer offers one, too.
