28th March would be better for me. Regardless of where we go :)

I'd prefer not to go to Blackpool, to be honest. I spend 2 or 3 days a week there already, so going there at the weekend too is not that attractive a proposition...

28th March would be best for me too - and like Andy I would prefer to steer clear of Blackpool! The N Wales options sound good.

There's a rather nicely restored pier at Menai Bridge as well, but Portmeirion would probably be a more attractive venue, especially in spring. I'll be OK for 28 March too - my local resident's winter pass doesn't run out until 31 March...

There's plenty of free parking outside the gates of Portmeirion.

If anyone was interested, I might be able to arrange a tour of the Ffestiniog Railway's Boston Lodge Works (just over the hill from Portmeirion) in the afternoon.

John, that's very kind. I'm sure we'd all be interested in a visit to the railway works.

Incidentally admission is free for everyone until the end of March provided you print the 'Free Winter Entry Voucher' that's linked to from this page...

Admission Costs : Portmeirion - Welcome to the official Portmeirion village web site

The railway, Portmerion and the pier sound like a good day out to me.

Last time I went to Portmerion, I used the train from Ffestiniog, and walked the half mile from the closest station. Very pleasant way to travel.

Everyone is more than welcome at any of the meetings arranged through the forum.

:)

Just a quick hello from a new member in Blackpool. Pleased to meet if you are over this way.

Welcome Absonus - what Leica deviation do you follow? Hope to see you at one of our gatherings.

I've spoken to the FR General Manager and there's no problem about a visit to Boston Lodge Works on 28 March. I'll need to liaise with the works supervisor to make sure that we can get into all of the workshops - the carriage shop should be particularly interesting.

Not picked up a still camera for some 10 years but always used Leica binos since the early eighties for birding.Needed a small camera for taking shots of old documents so picked up a Lumix FX 3 because of the Leica lens. Great fun but got me hankering after something else . I seem to need a viewfinder !

That something else turned out to be an M3 DW initially with a Nockton 40 SC but now also a Leica 90 2.8.

You're on a slippery slope <grin>.

I quite fancy a meeting in Blackpool - Andy's reservations not withstanding. Since later this month seems to be taken, early summer perhaps?
