I recently bought a new 35 M cron asph in silver. It came along with a rectangular lens hood; the latter however, doesn't stay on the lens, it's not firmly fixed. I try to find somebody im my area having the same lense, in order to check if the lens is the problem or the hood.

Did anybody encounter a similar problem ? Thanks in advance for any reply on this matter.

After checking with a cron 35 asph of a friend of mine, the problem is the lens, not the hood. This problem should have been noticed at Leica, and the lens should have never been send out on the market. Honestly, this is ridiculous, and after reading so many complaints of people having problems that could have checked at Solms, this confirms again that the Quality Department at Leica does not work properly. I hope Leica will get aware of this problem and reorganize this department, or hire more people, up to them to solve this problem once for all.

No, 3 out of 3 without such issues.

You are a lucky guy.Mine was sent back to Solms to get the problem fixed. Hope Kaufmann will wake up the whole staff of the quality department as they were really ridiculed on this one.

i got one in January (serial no. starts 404***** if that's significant) and i've got to say that the 4 catches are pretty flakey in making a secure grip onto the lens. while it won't fall off when attached, any slight forced pressure on the hood (e.g. removing the cap) will make it 'pop' off. i've also found the hood will definitely not attach when an E39 13132 filter is used (although perhaps using a filter with Leica glass is a sacriligious act and therefore it's just simply not meant to be ?!?). but on the back of these discussions, i'll be paying my dealer a visit to check if mine's a wrong 'un...

Got a 35 Cron ASPH about 2 years ago and the hood would not stay on, it would come off with any pressure up/down/left/right. Figured out that the tabs on the hood were not fully engaging the slot on the lens. Cut off, shaved down, the small front stop ring on the hood so the hood would go on the lens farther and it then stayed on. Got a 28/2.8 Elmarit ASPH about a month later that uses the same hood. The hood from the 28 Elmarit ASPH did stay on the 35 Cron without cutting down the front stop ring.

So it is not just the lens but the combination of certain hoods on certain lenses.

Leica sent me a Quotation back for an amount of more than 230 € to get the problem fixed. I just can't believe this. The Lens is brand new with guarantee and they want me to pay for an error they did during assembly. Can somebody tell me , who is the customer contact person at Solms.I will give him a call to get more detailled information from them.

Thanks in advance,

Serge

If it's brand new, with warranty, tell them to stop being ridiculous. Just phone the main switchboard at Solms and ask for Customer Service.

In the UK, your dealer will have sorted this for you, as the contract you had was with him, not the manufacturer.

Thanks Andy,

You were right. I gave Leica (Solms) a call and they said it's an error from them and the lens will be fixed under guarantee. Sorry to have posted this so quickly. I was a little bit upset when I saw the quotation. I won't do that again.

Thanks,

Serge
