Still waiting to know where and when car industry allows users to drive the concept cars at big show But my guess is that you'll find another way of avoiding the subject to continue to live in a imaginary world where your fantasies have a chance of coming true. BTW, this is the same story over and over again and I'm tired of repeating that we head the exact same arguments when the DMR was announced months before its availaibility. Because some people cannot wait for 6 months without becoming frantic, they finally convince themselves that this will never happen, that if it happens, it won't be good at all, that they have been lied to. And whoever says the contrary is not speaking the voice of reason but a part of this huge conspiration of the whole world to deceive them. And apparently, this includes camera makers announcing products, showing working prototypes, annoucing delays, range of lenses, publishing pictures and finally having nothing real to sell in the end. carstenw Posted April 1, 2009 Share #26 Posted April 1, 2009 An interesting, if possibly meaningless, tidbit: in the latest issue of ProfiFoto, a German pro magazine, in the "Coming Next Month" section, the S2 is present, with the tagline "announced last Photokina, now production-ready". The first device sports a 30x45mm CCD sensor, which is 56% bigger than a typical 35mm sensor. Is the mirror assembly / shutter & gate oversized to accommodate larger dimension sensors? adan Posted April 1, 2009 Share #31 Posted April 1, 2009 Andy, I think BJNY is referencing the possibility of an eventual S3 (or whatever) with a sensor bigger than 30 x 45mm. Say, 36 x 48 or 54. His question is, is the assembly in the S2 already oversized to allow it to work with a bigger sensor without having to redesign all the parts? Sort of like - was the D300 designed so that the same shutter and mirror could be used in the D700, thus saving money for Nikon? Leica said the S2 would be the foundation for a whole system, not just one camera, which might involve different sensor formats at some point: smaller, obviously, (maybe) for the R-lens dreamers out there - but also possibly larger for a competitive edge in the future. They more or less repeated that statement in the BJP item he quotes: "....the first of many future models that will form part of the S Sytem, says the company." "Not covering 645" is not the same as "absolutely no bigger than 30mm x 45mm". Even if the S lenses only just cover the 30x45 sensor (54mm diagonal), the same image circle would also cover a 38mm x 38mm square sensor, which would require a larger or oversized shutter in at least one dimension. At some point we'll know the real dimensions of the S2 shutter, and BNJY's question will be answered one way or the other. I never ASSUME - ;^) - because you know how the old saw goes.... In the new LFI you can see a CAD-picture of the S2-mirror-box. The shutter seems to have the size of the S-format.
