KevinA Posted February 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Any firm updates on this camera system, is the iso decided yet and any new due dates. I would love to test this machine, if anyone could take the detail and sharpness to the limit it's my subjects. I'm hoping 400iso is viable, that and decent lenses could get my wallet out. I'm getting disillusioned with the 35mm digital cameras and poor lenses, they quote f1.4 in reality they are unusable anywhere near that aperture, even my f4 lenses need stopping way down to be usable. Will there be a hands on example at Focus this month in Birmingham UK? Kevin.
Advertisement Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Hi KevinA, Take a look here Any updates?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 9, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 9, 2009 I may get my chance next month. Leica invited me to come play with it at PMA in March. Trying to see if i can free myself to go up to Vegas and take them up on there offer. Most likely more announcements on the S2 will come at that time. Leica usually waits for events like this to make announcements or in this case a update status on the S2. I'm sure we will start getting more info pretty soon and see more results as they progress with this system.
marknorton Posted February 9, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 9, 2009 I'm not sure I'd describe them as unusable but certainly what few 1.4 lenses there are (and I only do Nikon beyond Leica) are no match for the Leica M 1.4s; they are no match for the price either with a Leica M 50/1.4 costing, roughly, 7 or 8 times what the new Nikon lens costs. I expect the S2 and its lenses will redefine the meaning of "sharp intake of breath". As for whether there will be a camera at "Focus on Imaging", it's doubtful since Leica are not currently shown as exhibiting.
stevelap Posted February 9, 2009 Share #4 Posted February 9, 2009 Hi,.............Will there be a hands on example at Focus this month in Birmingham UK?Kevin. Extremely unlikely imo. I've never seen so much as a poster, yet alone a Leica stand, at Focus. It seems that Leica UK don't exhibit at the UK's biggest trade show:confused: (or any other UK show as far as I can tell), and as Mark said they don't appear on the list of exhibitors. I'd like to be proved wrong, but.....
ChrisC Posted February 9, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 9, 2009 .... never seen so much as a poster, yet alone a Leica stand, at Focus...... It's no help now of course; but they used to exhibit. ........... Chris
R10dreamer Posted February 13, 2009 Share #6 Posted February 13, 2009 It's no help now of course; but they used to exhibit. ........... Chris Seems kind of funny to me that they announce a system as if they "have" it when in truth they don't really "have" anything but a template for a system. I love Leica but they don't "have" anything yet and it has been months since their announcement.

Well, they annouced it for this summer.

They also had several prototype lenses that were demonstrated. There will be more of the system shown at PMA.
andybarton Posted February 18, 2009 Share #9 Posted February 18, 2009 S2s will be in the hands of people with NDAs, even as we type. Leica will not be at Focus.

I love Leica but they don't "have" anything yet and it has been months since their announcement. A complete photoshoot in LFI, albeit with a not yet fully functional camera, seems to me to be somewhat more than a template.
R10dreamer Posted March 23, 2009 Share #11 Posted March 23, 2009 The automobile industry has been producing "concept" cars for years. Doesn't mean that they come to market. I do believe that Leica will come out with the S2 but my point was that it isn't a product on the market yet. When that day comes Leica can argue that they have a new camera on the market. GD Whalen Photography I have to say Gary that I struggle to understand your (and others) consistent negativity in threads concerning the S2 and R10. I can understand disappointment certainly, given your long wait for an R10, but surely trying to remain positive would be better......life's just too short. You mean that this statement is a "fact" It seems to me that any sentence that starts off with "Seems kind of funny to me" and goes on to interpret reality subjectively is an opinion rather than a fact:rolleyes:

Well I certainly don't recall seeing any "facts" in your recent posts Gary. Look, I've no intention of engaging in an argument with you but let me see if I've got this straight........by advocating a positive attitude I'm being negative:confused: Oh dear. marcusperkins Posted March 23, 2009 Share #16 Posted March 23, 2009 That's the point - the fact is there are no facts. No definite release date, no solid details about the camera, no price details. Nothing at all. The details that are available are vague and unconvincing, including the "tough" studio test. At this stage the S2 is simply a concept camera being marketed as a real product, which is misleading.

First concept camera I've been able to use then . Nothing at all. If by nothing at all, you mean full characteristics, technology used, a full set of lenses, I guess you are right
