kivis Posted September 8, 2009 Share #21 Posted September 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Did someone say they might add a M7 with a 0,85x VF? I recommend it highly. I use 2 MPs both with 0,85x VFs, and I have grown to prefer the highest magnification possible with the framelines I want. Controversially I have learned to prefer shooting my 35s on the ,85x lines with both eyes open for focusing and composing. The focus accuracy, especially in lower light, with faster lenses, is very helpful. I will ditto that remark.

mnsato Posted February 25, 2010 Share #24 Posted February 25, 2010 I ordered an a la carte M7 from Vauhgn Smith from Lighthaus Camera on Oahu, Hawaii on Dec. 2009. Black paint, classic engraving, mp-style controls, .72 veiwfinder in vacanite finish. The camera arrived at the end of Jan. 2010...and, I could not be any more pleased! I also have an anthracite MP, an black M9 and a silver M8.2. The a la carte M7 and me just hang out together.
innerimager Posted February 25, 2010 Share #25 Posted February 25, 2010 Maybe this is a good place to get opinions on this. I have an inside track on this ala carte M7. Chrome, MP chrome attachments, clean front and classic top, cognac leather, 0.72 with regular 6 frame VF. Given that a similar stock M7 would run 2000-2200, do you think there is much "market" value to justify buying it for a higher price now, especially considering future resale value? I love it, trying to get more "objective" opinions, ( as if that can happen here!).....Peter
twittle Posted February 26, 2010 Share #26 Posted February 26, 2010 That's definitely a purty camera. Resale value is only an issue if you plan on selling, so if you like it well enough to pay the asking price...
poptart Posted February 26, 2010 Share #27 Posted February 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here's my M7 ALC which I bought three years ago. It's my favourite Leica M and makes me want to go out and shoot more film. That is my dream camera! If you ever decide to sell it........
budrichard Posted February 26, 2010 Share #28 Posted February 26, 2010 Do you want to take pictures or do you want to look at your camera? If you want to look at your M7, then its a nice one but if you want to take pictures than you can buy a lot of film for the usual price difference. I have two M7's, both stock, one purchased new in the box and one purchased Mint. I paid about $2200USD for each, if I had ordered A la Carte, I would be out about $9KUSD, if I looked for them used and could find them, probably at least $6KUSD minimum. No way is the lack of a Red Dot and leather worth the price differential to me as I can do a lot of things with the money I saved and my M7's work just like every other M7.-Dick BTW, both are 0.85 models. Xmas Posted February 26, 2010 Share #29 Posted February 26, 2010 M2 and M3s are cheaper. I live in dark ages (well the UK) and 400 ISO f/6.3 1/125 is good for 6 months of year. Noel

I totally agree with what you say at new ala carte prices. This one will cost me about $3000, a premium over an expected $2200 for a stock one, but not a crazy one. Gentleman Villain Posted February 26, 2010 Share #31 Posted February 26, 2010 I love it, trying to get more "objective" opinions, ( as if that can happen here!) I love it! Thanks for posting the pics too because I've been bouncing the idea around of an a la carte silver MP .85 with cognac leather....so the visual really helps me out. I wonder how it would look with more of the black lenses When I first learned of a la carte, the idea sounded ridiculous. Ya know...Cameras are just tools right? However, most cameras are not designed to last a lifetime in the way that a Leica can last. So there is something extra special about having a personal touch on a lifetime camera. The whole idea has grown on me quite a bit and I think it works well with a film leica that can truly last a lifetime.
ndjambrose Posted February 26, 2010 Share #32 Posted February 26, 2010 ...the BP MPs coming up are more expensive by hundreds of pounds than last year. Agreed. Current list price of an MP is £1100 more than I paid for mine around three years ago.
RAN Posted February 26, 2010 Share #33 Posted February 26, 2010 Objectively.. I think its OK..reminiscent of a Hermes Chrome ,Leather and MP controls are tasteful but the Black Door is a deal breaker for me and I am not too fond of the way the black lens looks on her either.. Still Love is powerful and can make you do things... Good Luck either way..what a dilemma to have!

I love it, trying to get more "objective" opinions, ( as if that can happen here!).....Peter Peter, think I saw it somewhere ... It's a nice looking M7, clearly. So here's my totally subjective personal opinion: If I were to spend that much money, I'd look for a really clean camera. This one doesn't seem to qualify. M7s in used condition are available everywhere and the leatherette can be changed to almost anything you fancy. But hey, it's totally subjective Cheers Ivo
Guest dk_samurai Posted February 27, 2010 Share #35 Posted February 27, 2010 Here my a la card for poor people..... Ah, you've seemed to have changed your profile in here? lincoln_m Posted March 29, 2010 Share #38 Posted March 29, 2010 This is another dangerous thread probably started by Leica ALC marketing intent on getting us to lust after fine ALC examples. Robert White UK had a loverly M7 in lizard skin as an example NOT FOR SALE. I keep an eye out in case the every do sell it, it would go like a gecko behind the fridge if they ever did sell. Peter, (and the Gloss black M7 owner) I just love the new M7 speed dial when in MP style controls, very much like a large MP dial but being an M7 rotates in the "correct" direction to match the exposure arrows if you go manual exposure. Remind me why the M7 does not have the MP rewind pull-up but has the angled rewind instead even with MP style controls? Regards, Lincoln
Pangur Ban Posted March 29, 2010 Share #39 Posted March 29, 2010 Remind me why the M7 does not have the MP rewind pull-up but has the angled rewind instead even with MP style controls? I can only think that its there to differentiate the models. I'd love an M7 customised to look just like an MP (or M2) and the presence of that irritating rewind crank rather than the good old post has prevented me from ever ordering an ALC M7 in my weaker moments. The combination of the modern camera with classic looks would be worth the cost to me.
redbaron Posted March 29, 2010 Share #40 Posted March 29, 2010 The top decks are also different heights. The old style knob may not fit on an M7.
