HP LP2475W experience

Hi everybody,

I wish to share with you a recent experience, positive for a change on this forum.

Two weeks ago my 19in iiyama 454 Pro CRT went burst; fortunately I still had an old 17in monitor at hand, so I was not totally blind. After frantic research on the web, I finally selected the HP LP2475W, a 24in 16/10 H-IPS Wide Gamut display.

HP delivered in 3 days. The factory settings were of course atrocious, but after turning the brightness down to a proper photo-editing level and calibrating with Spyder2 Pro, the results are excellent:

- no color cast, even local;

- excellent brightness uniformity right up to the corners;

- it is only marginally wider than the 19in 454 Pro, and yet the viewing area is practically double: if needed, I can comfortably run CO4 and PS side by side;

- the Wide Gamut capability is a gratifying experience, revealing Leica M8 color tone richness which the CRT never showed;

- it’s price is reasonable compared to any other “pro” monitors.

It performed successfully the Locum monitor tests (LCD monitor test images)

As a matter of curiosity, here is an unretouched shot of my Windows start-up screen (M8 & Nocti)

I too have a HP2475W, and am very happy with it. Read very, very happy.

The very high end HP DreamColor monitor is a bit better, notably as regards uniformity across the screen, but it also costs a LOT more. The DreamColor btw, actually uses the same panel, but with a LED backlight.

The only caution that I'd sound is not about the 2475W, but about wide gamut monitors in general - be sure you understand the downsides - especially that colors will be "off" in non-color managed applications - before you buy.

Sandy
