Guest WPalank Posted February 3, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 3, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear members, On the heels of our successful recent San Francisco get together organized by Maurizio, I would like to suggest another Leica Photo shoot at the upcoming Chinese New Year Parade this Saturday Feb. 7. Official parade start is 5:30 PM. The Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade Having shot this event several times, I would suggest we meet somewhere near Market and First or Second Street around 4PM or slightly earlier. Location and exact time can be discussed in this thread.
Advertisement Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Hi Guest WPalank, Take a look here San Francisco - Chinese New Year Parade. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
thompsonkirk Posted February 3, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 3, 2009 Hi, William - Good idea! But it was only by chance that I scrolled down & saw this. Since the subject matter is 99.4% people, I wonder if you could post this on the People site, where more folks will see it? I believe this would be 'legal,' because you've included a fine People Picture. Regards, Kirk
Guest WPalank Posted February 3, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 3, 2009 Good idea Kirk. I'm also PMing people that replied to the thread on our last adventure.
kdemas Posted February 3, 2009 Share #4 Posted February 3, 2009 William, Terrific idea. If I am in town (I will know tomorrow) I will be there, sounds like fun. Kent
carylwithay Posted February 3, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 3, 2009 I cannot make it but wanted you all to know that City Hall and Coit Tower and the Ferry Building are all lit up green this week and make great photoops. I do not know when it will end but if you are near, do go. Caryl

Guest WPalank Posted February 5, 2009 Share #9 Posted February 5, 2009 I'm good to go!
thompsonkirk Posted February 6, 2009 Share #10 Posted February 6, 2009 I'll be there if it's not raining, & the prospects look good: NWS weather prediction is down to 'slight' chance of showers. If it's overcast, we'll need to wear large apertures at that time of day! Kirk (PS, Linda mentioned she'd be out-of-town that day.)
JE Posted February 6, 2009 Share #11 Posted February 6, 2009 Enjoy. I'm looking forward to the photos... JE
kdemas Posted February 6, 2009 Share #12 Posted February 6, 2009 Here is a link to a map of the parade route for tomorrow. This should be fun! The Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade Kent ps- I think I'm taking BART to the Montgomery Street station. BART - Montgomery St.
Guest WPalank Posted February 6, 2009 Share #13 Posted February 6, 2009 Kent, In my experience it is best to shoot in and around the staging area before the parade. It's easier to get close to the subject and less of a manic environment. Everyone's in costume and in a great mood.
kdemas Posted February 6, 2009 Share #14 Posted February 6, 2009 Sounds great! Shall we meet at 1st and mission, 4PM as you recommended? I haven't been to this parade since I was about 3 (too long ago!) so I definitely appreciate the experienced info. Now.... to decide what to bring:) Kent
