Mystic Posted February 8, 2009 Author Share #21 Posted February 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you for your advice Andreas i really have to think about the getting a lightmeter and a Leica M camera or perhaps a CL. but the race isnt over yet between M and R(8) so it will probably take a while till i got a final decision. Luckily there is such a nice forum where i can read on . but if i got a new camera i will definitely tell you which model it is Best regards Daniel
Advertisement Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Hi Mystic, Take a look here Hi im new and i got a question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Doc Henry Posted February 8, 2009 Share #22 Posted February 8, 2009 hi , the R4 is a very nice camera no doubt about that. i owned it too, i just sold it because i wanted to buy the R8 because of some features and handling too ( i like big SLR cameras ) but somehow im really interested in RF cameras. its not the size that matters, its about quality and probalby im interested in a new "kind of camera" thats why i like the Leica M series . Hi Lct and MysticBeautiful R4S on the picture: it's new ! I have a R4s and also a R8 but as the R10 isn't avalaible at the Kina 2008,i am now with a digital M8...and also a M7 for film but not easy to shoot with the telemetric system, after 37 years with Reflex For Daniel question i agree with Kenenth's answer : "To answer your question directly. I chose a Leica M system because of it's backwards compatibility. it's compactness, it's unobtrusiveness, it's build quality unmatched in the industry, it's robustness and last but not least, it's optics." and i have 5 lens 28,35,50,90 and
andit Posted February 8, 2009 Share #23 Posted February 8, 2009 Hey Daniel, The other thing that is worth considering, is that R lenses are selling much cheaper than M lenses. In fact, I would say that they are hopelessly underpriced. This may change if and when Leica bring out the R10 Digital SLR. It was much the same with the M system - once the M8 came out all things M went crazy in terms of pricing. Then again, these are two very different systems with different applications.

Its nice to know that the prices will probably rise if the R10 (digital) comes - and it will come maybe with new lenses! thats what Leica told my ex photostore where i worked . Guest darkstar2004 Posted February 8, 2009 Share #25 Posted February 8, 2009 They are completely different experiences. The rangefinder is best for what I call conversational photography. You shoot at ranges close enough to speak to the subject without shouting. The cameras are smaller and lighter, and tend not to get the paparazzi response that a DSLR does. On the other hand, they are not as flexible in all situations. Macro and long telephoto work are much easier with a DSLR. You may consider renting an M for a weekend and seeing if you like the experience. I would recommend an M6, M7, or MP if you buy, and if you find a clean one second hand, you should be able to get 60-65% of your money back out of it, much better than a DSLR. Have fun. Eric What Eric said. I chose to invest in an MP & lenses because I became more interested in documentary photography, street photography and photographing people - all of which Leica M cameras accomplish in an outstanding manner. Beyond that, my reasons were: -Best lenses in the world -MP & lenses are small, light and highly portable with a mininum of bulk/weight/fuss -Built like a tank (both body & lenses) - they are nearly indestructible -Longevity -Backward compatibility -Quietness of operation -Lenses produce frighteningly sharp E6 results with the most beautiful color rendering -Quality of prints that the lenses produce at large sizes -An M kit will do about 90% of all photographic jobs and do them in outstanding fashion -Simplicity of design (no 400+ pg. manual like many pro digital cameras) -Full mechanical reliability; shutter does not lock up on the MP (with only one mechanical shutter speed available as is the case with the M6 & M7) when batteries die On top of all that, the cameras & lenses are simply beautiful. They are high art renederd in brass, steel & glass
