Advertisement Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Hi Olsen, Take a look here "Do you know the world ?" -- Competition --. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
doubice Posted August 6, 2009 Share #1942 Posted August 6, 2009 Jan, I gave a hint that I would pick a destination that was 'at the same latitude as Whitehorse'. Well, Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada is at about 60 degrees, while the Oslo Harbour is at 59 degrees plus some minutes. Indeed it gets 'so cold here in Oslo'. Last winter was mild, actually. Back in the 60' you could go skating from Oslo to Copenhagen during some of the 'really' cold winters. Oslo is correct. I live right up the hill in the background. Congratulations, Jan. Your turn! I completely forgot about that hint and was just about to run a parallel from Whitehorse to Norway when I found out that my Oslo guess was correct! One of the reasons I left Montréal after coming to Canada in 1968 was that, its climate was close to Inner Mongolia. Unbearably cold winters plus unbearably humid and hot summers…. Vancouver is Canada’s Mediterranean! Will post as soon I get home. Best, Jan

doubice Posted August 6, 2009 Share #1945 Posted August 6, 2009 There is no bad weather - only bad clothing:D Michael, I tried running naked down St. Catherine to cool down in the summer but the local authorities did not take to it too kindly and it did not help anyway. I believe that in the summer, clothing should be optional in the eastern part of Canada, with free public shower stalls installed on street corners. Royal Norwegian Navy 'SAS' - rumoured to be among the first 'British' SAS to be set ashore on the Falklands Islands in 82'). He runs this company taking people skiing across the Artic ice. He know a thing or two about what to wear on a cold day. Link here: Børge Ousland - Polar Explorer There is a video of a girl taking a swim at the North Pole somewhere on his web site. In bikini. Nor recommended, though.

It is not Denmark, as a matter of fact it is not in Europe..... I will not give out any more hints - one of the previous posters actually lives in this city. doubice Posted August 8, 2009 Share #1955 Posted August 8, 2009 Bingo. McGill it is. Over to you. Just out of interest Frans, how did you find out? Best, Jan
vertekijker Posted August 8, 2009 Share #1956 Posted August 8, 2009 Thank you Jan. To be honest, thanks to 'mister Google' as they say here. After the seagull helped me to find Montreal, I just hád to find the specific location. This was a very hard one! I asked my wife and sons at some point if they could see more in that photo than I did. Funny thing is that I visited Montreal and Mc Gill University about 25 years ago when I was interested to study in their graduate program, but that is too long ago to remember much about parks and architecture there. I first googled for statues in Montreal - i think I have seen just about every statue in Montreal now... Then statues of winged creatures, statues of Icarus, bronze statues, old statues... I later searched under 'Montreal old buildings' and that's how I finally found it. It was a lot of fun. Bit like solving a puzzle. Alright, I will look for something now myself. --------------------- Frans
