A hint: the building where the shot was taken is a national museum.

Thanks, Dirk. The path to finding the answer was very informative, which, I think, is one of the great benefits of this thread.

For this next one, I think the background city (hint!) is maybe quite easy so, as an extra variation on the thread, I'd like to know not only the city where this photo was taken but also the name of the novel in which a character "lived" in this building. The building's number is Twelve. The novel was written after 2000.

Good luck,

Ken.

Not Phillips, Andreas.

Hint: this novelist often used photos to accompany the text. (Actually two hints.)

Cheers, Ken.

Ken,

I just happened upon this after a long absence from the Net - the fact that this is Prague is beyond any doubt. I even know roughly where we are - above Small Town Square (Malostranské náměstí), below the Castle, around a street called Jánský vršek?

I know this city inside out, from numerous walks but, cannot place this photo. The house number seems to be 4, not 12....

Stumped......

Jan

Time for another clue. I knew you would know this area, Jan.
