Heldenberg

That’s it!  Your turn!

Field Marshal Radetzky is buried there. A rich businessman bought the right to bury him there by paying his debts (although the Emperor wanted to bury him in the Capuchin Crypt, the crypt of the Emperors from the Habsburg family)! Radetzky apparently had an expensive livestyle. The businessman, Pargfrieder, is buried there, too.

They also have a museum for classic cars and an exhibition of pewter figures with battle scenes.

Here is some further information:

Field Marshal Josef Graf Radetzky was born in Bohemia on November 2, 1766 and served an incredible 72 years in the Imperial and Royal Army. Alongside Prince Eugen, Radetzky was the most popular general in Austria. He came from a Bohemian noble family. Even his grandfather and father were imperial officers. Radetzky was married to Countess Strassoldi-Grafenberg and died on January 5, 1858 at the age of 92.

From Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heldenberg_Memorial:

Joseph Radetzky von Radetz, an Austrian Army Field Marshal and national hero, died on January 5, 1858, after an accident in Milan. The Emperor wished that he be buried in the Capuchin crypt (the Imperial Crypt in Vienna), however, Radetzky had bequeathed his earthly remains, and the right to bury him, to Pargfrieder, who had settled his debts earlier. On 19 January 1858, Radetzky was buried at the Heldenberg memorial. He lies in a crypt under a monumental obelisk, together with Field Marshal Maximilian von Wimpffen and Pargfrieder.

Thank you, Andreas. An Austrian colleague of mine took me to the site, giving background to the Habsburg empire.  Much enjoyed it.

Where are we now?
