luigi bertolotti Posted June 3, 2009 Share #1342 Posted June 3, 2009 Boy, that's really HARD !! "USA" is my only guess...
psquared Posted June 3, 2009 Share #1343 Posted June 3, 2009 I thought it might be hard. USA is not correct. The place has a few thousand more years of written history.
doubice Posted June 3, 2009 Share #1344 Posted June 3, 2009 USA is not correct. The place has a few thousand more years of written history. A few thousand more years of written history than the USA? That could be many places.... My guess is China or Japan - judging by the building peeking through the trees in the background. Best, Jan

You are also in the right region of the world, but it's not China or Japan. It's a country in between them that's a peninsula. OK, I gave away the country. But than I thought "nah, it can't be that easy" and changed my mind..... So - it is South Korea! Best, Jan Edited June 3, 2009 by doubice

doubice Posted June 3, 2009 Share #1351 Posted June 3, 2009 Incheon? Jan
psquared Posted June 3, 2009 Share #1352 Posted June 3, 2009 Nope. Out of all the cities mentioned thus far, Daegu is the closest. The city we're looking for was the capital of one of the three ancient states that co-existed on the penisula, and this state was the first to unify the Korean peninsula. doubice Posted June 3, 2009 Share #1355 Posted June 3, 2009 (edited) ...just guess ....Seorabol today Gyeongyu ?? wls Yes.... ....Edit - what I actually meant was that Seorabol is indeed today's Gyeongju.... And hopefully the correct answer. Edited June 3, 2009 by doubice
psquared Posted June 3, 2009 Share #1356 Posted June 3, 2009 Jan came in ahead just by a few seconds. Modern-day Gyeongju, known as Seorabol in the ancient days, is the correct answer. The pictured structure is a part of the ruins of the Poseokjung Palace. It is said that the king and the courtiers gathered here for recreation. The structure was filled with water, and they floated wooden cups filled with liquor. People would recline around the waterway, and when the cup stopped in front of him, he either made up a poem and recite it or take the drink (or maybe both? ). Your turn, Jan. You responded with a correct answer as well, at 13:58. In the second post I was simply responding to what I thought was your query whether Seorabol and Gyeongju were one and the same. Peter understood...... Best, Jan
