That implies a religious foundation - I thought it looked a bit church-ish.

Stoneleigh Abbey. Your original picture was very interesting. Certainly looked late medieval and religious but I couldn't quite make out what it was, with the strange battlements above the arches. I now know that it was a gatehouse.

.... err .... I suspect that was a lucky guess......

 

Yes .... Stoneleigh Abbey it is ...... originally a Cistercian Monastery, robbed by Henry VIII and subsequently bought by extended/rebuilt by relatives of Jane Austen who often visited.

 

I have lived 20 minutes from it for nearly 30 years and only visited it for the first time last sunday........:rolleyes:
