"Do you know the world ?" -- Competition --

It is not in Ieper either. These buildings are not related to industry, Otto. This type of collection of buildings is found in towns in Flanders, in the Netherlands and in the North of France (French Flanders), but nowhere else to my knowledge.

Been a while since I saw a reply. Maybe everybody is out partying... Maybe I should be too! I'll give an additional hint to get this thread moving along a bit. The most famous of this type of place can be found in Bruges. The town where this one can be found even has two - a small one and a large one... A give-away now!

Wishing you all a wonderful, healthy and prosperous 2013, and lots of great pictures.:)

Excellent Michael, you have it. It is the old 'begijnhof' ('Béguinage) of Leuven in Belgium!

A 'begijnhof' is a religious community, but different from a monastery, unique to the 'low countries' (northern as well as southern Netherlands) - Béguinage - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia .

Your turn!

Gelukkig nieuwjaar!

I am a little reluctant to say I have not been to Leuven - although my daughter spent a year there on an exchange program. We have been to the begijnhof in both Bruges and Amsterdam. They were both quite captivating, and provided a lovely moment to be quiet and listen, particularly in their respective churches.

This next one is not in the low countries - perhaps you guessed - and is a happy reminder that there is not snow everywhere in January.

Do you mean the one at Ponce de Leon inlet Otto ???

That looks like the one to me....

Otto may have the right idea, but thighslapper is the first with the correct name - so the goal goes to thighslapper, and Otto gets mentioned in dispatches. And I get a thick ear for mixed metaphors.

Yes Michael I agree, I did not know that name, but it I checked it and Ponce de Leon is the place I meant. Here's a view of the staircase of the lighthouse.

I'm happy for Otto to have the next go.....

On Google it is on Inlet Harbour Road .... and although it is referred to as Ponce de Leon Lighthouse, the town is in fact a good way inland. Thats why I asked .... I was sure Otto had the right location .... which is the point of the competition ...:)
