Advertisement Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Hi otto.f, Take a look here "Do you know the world ?" -- Competition --. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
vertekijker Posted December 30, 2012 Share #11182 Posted December 30, 2012 I posted Diest a few years ago.It is not that one either, Otto. Do you know what type of buildings these are? Typically Flemish. That will help to figure tout. ----------- Frans
otto.f Posted December 30, 2012 Share #11183 Posted December 30, 2012 You mean the cloth industry? Could it be Ieper then?
vertekijker Posted December 30, 2012 Share #11184 Posted December 30, 2012 It is not in Ieper either. These buildings are not related to industry, Otto. This type of collection of buildings is found in towns in Flanders, in the Netherlands and in the North of France (French Flanders), but nowhere else to my knowledge. ----------------- Frans
vertekijker Posted December 31, 2012 Share #11185 Posted December 31, 2012 Been a while since I saw a reply. Maybe everybody is out partying... Maybe I should be too! I'll give an additional hint to get this thread moving along a bit. The most famous of this type of place can be found in Bruges. The town where this one can be found even has two - a small one and a large one... A give-away now! Wishing you all a wonderful, healthy and prosperous 2013, and lots of great pictures. --------------- Frans
Dirk Van der Herten Posted December 31, 2012 Share #11186 Posted December 31, 2012 Might it be Mechelen, Frans? A Happy New Year to you.
vertekijker Posted December 31, 2012 Share #11187 Posted December 31, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dag Dirk! Long time no see! (my fault) No, it is not Mechelen, but you are getting warm. I remember that you are eating long things tonight, right? Dirk Van der Herten Posted December 31, 2012 Share #11188 Posted December 31, 2012 久しぶり! You are well-informed, Frans, indeed it's the time of the year to eat long things.
Michael Hiles Posted December 31, 2012 Share #11189 Posted December 31, 2012 Frans, Does this have any relation to the Béguinages, of which Bruges has 1 and Leuven has 2? So my guess would be Leuven... Oh and Happy 2013 à tout le monde.
vertekijker Posted January 1, 2013 Share #11190 Posted January 1, 2013 Excellent Michael, you have it. It is the old 'begijnhof' ('Béguinage) of Leuven in Belgium! A 'begijnhof' is a religious community, but different from a monastery, unique to the 'low countries' (northern as well as southern Netherlands) - Béguinage - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . Your turn! Gelukkig nieuwjaar! ---------- Frans
Michael Hiles Posted January 1, 2013 Share #11191 Posted January 1, 2013 I am a little reluctant to say I have not been to Leuven - although my daughter spent a year there on an exchange program. We have been to the begijnhof in both Bruges and Amsterdam. They were both quite captivating, and provided a lovely moment to be quiet and listen, particularly in their respective churches. This next one is not in the low countries - perhaps you guessed - and is a happy reminder that there is not snow everywhere in January. Welcome, dear visitor! otto.f Posted January 1, 2013 Share #11192 Posted January 1, 2013 Not the Everglades , is it?
Michael Hiles Posted January 1, 2013 Share #11193 Posted January 1, 2013 The Everglades? Close - but not quite. Perhaps a 1 hour drive from the Everglades. Sometimes I am up to my ass in aligators, but not this time. However it is Florida. A small place, just a little south of a larger and better known community. otto.f Posted January 2, 2013 Share #11194 Posted January 2, 2013 Really! The lighthouse near Inlet Harbour then?
thighslapper Posted January 2, 2013 Share #11195 Posted January 2, 2013 (edited) Do you mean the one at Ponce de Leon inlet Otto ??? That looks like the one to me.... Edited January 2, 2013 by thighslapper
Michael Hiles Posted January 2, 2013 Share #11196 Posted January 2, 2013 Do you mean the one at Ponce de Leon inlet Otto ??? That looks like the one to me.... Otto may have the right idea, but thighslapper is the first with the correct name - so the goal goes to thighslapper, and Otto gets mentioned in dispatches. And I get a thick ear for mixed metaphors. otto.f Posted January 3, 2013 Share #11197 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) Yes Michael I agree, I did not know that name, but it I checked it and Ponce de Leon is the place I meant. Here's a view of the staircase of the lighthouse. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! thighslapper Posted January 3, 2013 Share #11198 Posted January 3, 2013 I'm happy for Otto to have the next go..... On Google it is on Inlet Harbour Road .... and although it is referred to as Ponce de Leon Lighthouse, the town is in fact a good way inland. Thats why I asked .... I was sure Otto had the right location .... which is the point of the competition ...
Michael Hiles Posted January 3, 2013 Share #11199 Posted January 3, 2013 My family spent a little time there back in the day. We had an appartment on the beach and everyone called it Ponce Inlet. Otto's fine picture reminds me that I did not climb the stairs - not a challenge for ground dwellers like me.
