stuny Posted December 21, 2012 Share #11086 Posted December 21, 2012 If I only recognized the pottery I'd have the answer.
thighslapper Posted December 21, 2012 Share #11087 Posted December 21, 2012 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) It is salt glazed stoneware The picture is from the museum of pottery Some of the manufacturers here have been making pottery for over 13 generations They have a pottery festival here (even years) on alternate years shared with Soufflenheim (odd years) The forest between them is the largest uninterrupted area of woodland in France. No excuses now for not locating the town...... Edited December 21, 2012 by thighslapper
geaibleu Posted December 22, 2012 Share #11088 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) With the allusion to the pottery festival it has to be Betschdorf, but with all due respect this little place IS in Alsace (Elsass if you prefer). Earlier indication to the effect that it was not in Alsace made it impossible to find. Edited December 22, 2012 by geaibleu misspelling
otto.f Posted December 22, 2012 Share #11089 Posted December 22, 2012 Yes that was a bit naughty I agree
thighslapper Posted December 22, 2012 Share #11090 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) Sorry..... but I was unaware of the German spelling ..... as it is France I would have expected the French spelling of Alsace.... not Elzsas... or Elsass for that matter which I assumed was some obscure wine producing village... of which there are hundreds in this area ..... Here in the UK we are incapable of speaking or recognising any other language apart from English as we have an education system that ignores the existence of the rest of Europe OK Geaibleu and Otto can fight over who gets the next turn Edited December 22, 2012 by thighslapper
geaibleu Posted December 22, 2012 Share #11091 Posted December 22, 2012 May I remind you that your very Queen HMER II (and ours here in Canada) has a great command of the french language...and should thus be excluded from your remarks. This being said, let Otto have the next one!
otto.f Posted December 22, 2012 Share #11092 Posted December 22, 2012 Oh no, I don't know the place at all and searched for potterie in Elzas too but did not find Betschdorf. So honestly I think Geaiblue earns the next move.
geaibleu Posted December 23, 2012 Share #11093 Posted December 23, 2012 So be it then! Thanks Otto. Map reading is a necessity, albeit confusing at times, to get to know the world. Where are we? pop Posted December 23, 2012 Share #11094 Posted December 23, 2012 The forum's rules about pictures apply here as well. Only pictures taken with Leica cameras or lenses, please. geaibleu - I have removed your entry for this reason.
a.j.z Posted December 23, 2012 Share #11095 Posted December 23, 2012 The forum's rules about pictures apply here as well. Only pictures taken with Leica cameras or lenses, please. geaibleu - I have removed your entry for this reason. I think for this thread this rule spoils the game a little bit as a lot of us, who are rather new to Leica, will have older photos with interesting places but that were not made with Leica gear. pop Posted December 23, 2012 Share #11096 Posted December 23, 2012 I think for this thread this rule spoils the game a little bit Possibly so. However, the picture I removed looked strikingly similar to a screenshot out of Google maps.
a.j.z Posted December 23, 2012 Share #11097 Posted December 23, 2012 Possibly so. However, the picture I removed looked strikingly similar to a screenshot out of Google maps. Understood. Copyright issues of course are something else.
otto.f Posted December 23, 2012 Share #11098 Posted December 23, 2012 So what do we do now?
pop Posted December 23, 2012 Share #11099 Posted December 23, 2012 I suggest that we wait until geaibleu either enters another puzzle or - if he does not have one at hand - yields to someone who has.
geaibleu Posted December 23, 2012 Share #11100 Posted December 23, 2012 Well, I am speechless! Indeed, it is taken from Google, but, to the best of my knowledge, these air photos have been taken by Leica lenses provided, unless I am mistaken, by Leica Geosystems, therefore respecting this thread rules. It might take me some time before I am able to put my hands on either an identical map, or print a Google fac-simile and then rephotograph it using my own 60 f 2.8, or 100 f2.8 Leica lenses. That, presumably would be acceptable. In the mean time, please take another player. Merry Xmas, folks, with a toast to the nitpickers!
