thighslapper Posted September 21, 2011 Share #8443 Posted September 21, 2011 The Vrbanja Bridge Sarajevo Several events if correct ..... The first victims in Sarajevo fell on the Vrbanja bridge on April 6, 1992, hit by a sniper bullet from serbian sniper site. They were Suada Dilberovic and Olga Sucic. Romeo and Juliet in Sarajevo was an international documentary about the deaths of Admira Ismić (b.1968) and Boško Brkić (b.1968) The couple were natives of the former Yugoslavia , living in the city of Sarajevo . Like many other couples and families in Bosnia , they were of different ethnic groups, she was a Bosniak , he a Bosnian Serb. They were killed on May 19 , 1993 , while fleeing the besieged city on Vrbanja bridge . They became a symbol for the suffering of the people on all sides of the conflict. philipus Posted September 21, 2011 Share #8444 Posted September 21, 2011 Vrbanja bridge is correct, well done! Nowadays named after the two victims of the Bosnian Serb sniper. Incidentally, the frontline went near the bridge and as a symbol of the efforts of the international community to assist in unifying Bosnia, the Office of the High Representative - which is the organisation tasked with implementing the Dayton peace agreement - was built at the end of the bridge (just outside the picture to the right). thighslapper Posted September 22, 2011 Share #8454 Posted September 22, 2011 Only one I can find that looks similar is The Karesansui garden of Meigetsu-in ... but looking on the internet all of these have the same basic structure and presumably there are thousands in Japan...... Dirk Van der Herten Posted September 22, 2011 Share #8455 Posted September 22, 2011 (edited) You are both on the correct island. The location is situated about 600 km. west of Kyoto and about 800 km. west of Kanagawa. Edited September 22, 2011 by Dirk Van der Herten
vertekijker Posted September 22, 2011 Share #8456 Posted September 22, 2011 Dear Dirk. Thanks for the tip. I tried to measure these distances on a map of Japan. 600km west of Kyoto takes me off the island. I also don't understand why you mention Kanagawa - that city is 355 km east from Kyoto as the crow flies. I must have missed something... ---------- Frans
Dirk Van der Herten Posted September 23, 2011 Share #8457 Posted September 23, 2011 The distance from Kyoto was just a rough estimation, Frans, sorry if I confused you. The location we are looking for is situated west of Kyoto, about halfway between Kyoto and Hiroshima (= also rough estimation).
vertekijker Posted September 23, 2011 Share #8458 Posted September 23, 2011 That is very helpful Dirk! Could it be the garden of Raikyū-ji, Takahashi? ------------- Frans

vertekijker Posted September 23, 2011 Share #8460 Posted September 23, 2011 Thank you Dirk. That looks like a gorgeous place - the way that the mountain becomes part of the garden... I hope to visit there some time. I'll dive into my archives now to find a new picture. -------------- Frans
