Mount Tamalpais State Park or do I need to think outside Marin County?

Ian ... you're still too far west.

I don't live in the area, so don't really know where the county lines have been drawn. If this location is not in Marin County, it's very, very close.

Hint: concentrate on the water !

China Camp?

Ian ... you've got the longitude pretty close ... but your latitude is well to the north of this location.

Can't believe none of our CA brethren have weighed in on this one yet !

I surrender.......I've trawled almost all the west coast national parks.....Angel Island is the only one that looks similar....

There you go ... Angel Island State Park it is.

The water in the foreground is a part of San Francisco Bay. The view shown is Ayala Cove, where the Tiberon to San Francisco Ferry stops. If one could get about 100' of elevation in this spot, there'd be a spectacular view across San Francisco Bay to the City of San Francisco.

It's amazing to encounter such a pastoral setting slap in the middle of such an intensely urban environment.

Over to you, thighslapper. Good work.

No

There are plenty more left......

220 people were burned alive in a bonfire in the field below here for refusing to renounce their faith........

Correct.

Montsegur was one of the last beseiged Cathar castles in the Albigensian Crusade to eradicate them ... it was beseiged by 10,000 french troops in 1243 and finally surrendered in March 1244. The 220 inhabitants who refused to renounce their faith were all burned alive in en masse in a field below the castle.

The original Cathar Castle was completely destroyed and the current ruins date from a few hundred years later.

It is a wild and remote place with a melancholic atmosphere that befits a place of great sacrifice.

Over to you Ian.

Okay, thanks.

Might be an easy one? Please name the location (including the building from where the photo was taken).
