It is indeed Charleville-Mézières in France. The famous son I had in mind was the poet Arthur Rimbaud but I can't fault your answer, Dirk. Well done. Over to you.

I almost immediately recognized the place, but I forgot that Rimbaud was born there.

What a huge difference there is between Charleville and the exotic places he visited.

So I feel obliged to post a pic of an obscure location. :)
