Advertisement Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Hi Sandokan, Take a look here "Do you know the world ?" -- Competition --. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
GMB Posted October 14, 2009 Share #2362 Posted October 14, 2009 This place is officially recognised as one of the most beautiful villages of France, and - my - it is a - treasure. Cheers, Ken. So it must be Chateaux Montresor. A little French can help:)
GMB Posted October 14, 2009 Share #2363 Posted October 14, 2009 Doh! Apres une lesson de Francais ... Montrésor. Château de Montrésor. I only saw your post after I had written mine. You were faster!
Sandokan Posted October 14, 2009 Share #2364 Posted October 14, 2009 I only saw your post after I had written mine. You were faster! I must admit to using Google to find that there was a town called Montresor. Before that I was looking through wikipedia to learn about the Plantagenets and the treasures that were stolen and buried in the area during the wars. That didnt help - it was a much simpler clue. I also admit that despite visiting the area a few years ago, we never went to Montresor, but will next time as it looks like a gem. I will try to find some Leica photos of places visited tonight. stunsworth Posted October 14, 2009 Share #2365 Posted October 14, 2009 If you are ever in the area Loches is another very pretty town a short distance away.
Sandokan Posted October 14, 2009 Share #2366 Posted October 14, 2009 I remember you saying you used to live in France - I would have to ask my "travel agent" if we went there or not, as I am pretty useless with names. I remember most of the villages we visited as being very photogenic but the wines were all superb and the food mostly excellent.

That's the one, Ravi. Like Steve, I can also recommend Loches, in fact there are so many gems in this area. Your turn. Ken.
Sandokan Posted October 14, 2009 Share #2368 Posted October 14, 2009 Ok, name the city. The clue is the water fountain. Extra points for the river and the names of the bridges up and down stream. psquared Posted October 15, 2009 Share #2370 Posted October 15, 2009 Basel?
Sandokan Posted October 15, 2009 Share #2371 Posted October 15, 2009 Basel? Well that was too easy! What gave it away and do you want the extra points? Certainly the city has displayed its wealth since medieval times by having these public drinking fountains all over the city with fresh clean water. It is also famous for its humanist movement, but if I showed a photo of the Hans Holbein exhibition here that would have been even easier.
psquared Posted October 15, 2009 Share #2372 Posted October 15, 2009 It was the peculiar shape of the dragon that gave it away. The river is the Rhein, but don't know the bridges. Here's the next one.
Sandokan Posted October 15, 2009 Share #2373 Posted October 15, 2009 Mittlerebrücke downriver and Schwarzwald Brücke upriver (next to Tinguely Museum). The dragon is of course a basilisk. Well done. However, "your" post's numeracy skills are sadly lacking; Tokyo and Seoul are 1153km apart. On the basis that Korean distances will be more accurate and from the camoflage clothes and MASH conurtations, how about Yeoncheon?
Guest suilvenman Posted October 15, 2009 Share #2374 Posted October 15, 2009 Is that Hawkeye or Trapper John? Fox Ranch, California? Cheers, Ken.
Sandokan Posted October 15, 2009 Share #2375 Posted October 15, 2009 Following Ken's idea (he was quite close with the bicycle link as that is also a popular transport method in Basel): Calabasas, California, Malibu Creek State Park - 1925 Las Virgenes Road, USA, which was the film location for the camp site. The mileages, I think, are just TV fantasy. The scene is also in TV land.
psquared Posted October 15, 2009 Share #2378 Posted October 15, 2009 Ken and Ravi, Both of you are correct. The location is now called Malibu Creek State Park, but while filming was going on, it was known as Fox Ranch. I guess the baton goes to Ken as he came up with the location first.
