petewayne Posted January 25, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok......this is the last for the Kennet and Avon Canal......going to find a new subject Crofton is situated at the highest point of the Kennet and Avon Canal and is critical to the entire water supply for the canal. A reservoir was built next to the canal to supply water after the local spring supply was deemed insufficient and this is used to supply the canal via the Crofton Pumping Station, which maintain two James Watt steam powered Beam Engines, which drew water from the springs and reservoir to feed a feeder channel to ensure there was sufficient head of water at the highest point and managed via the Crofton Locks.
