jimleicam3 Posted January 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am still looking for a wider angle, the 24 mm f/2.8 sounds like one of the best Leica lens ever made. But because of cost I have an interest in the 24 mm f/3.8. I have Putts's comments. I think that Reid will be doing something soon. But has anyone used this lens yet? Thanks!! spylaw4 Posted January 24, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 24, 2009 It's 24mm f3.8 and it is available so you should not have long to wait for pics to show up.
hoppyman Posted January 25, 2009 Share #4 Posted January 25, 2009 I have one. You might have missed posts on this in other threads. If you don't need the f/2.8, buy this lens. Copy from another thread response by me. On form factor the Elmar is a wonderful compact package. 46mm filter thread means I can use the Universal Pol, neat little metal screw on hood (supplied) is an excellent design and adds very little bulk. Very short and smooth focus throw with a tab. My favourite kind for a wide. On price, owing to discounting and rebates you can actually buy the Elmarit for LESS money in Australia right now, which is extraordinary. I opted to get the Elmar for its equal image quality but in a more compact package. Of course it is a slower lens, but I mind that not at all. I have a Summicron 28 if I need more speed there. On my first indoor mixed lighting test grab shots with the new lens I saw no visible vignetting wide open on the M8 and really neutral blacks although I had no UV/IR on it then. Elmar M 3.8 24 test2 I'm still trying to figure that one out! Current firmware recognises this lens just fine. Different coding to the Elmarit so there is more correction going on than just for 24mm. sean_reid Posted January 26, 2009 Share #5 Posted January 26, 2009 My test copy just got here. It's about third in-line for takeoff - two other articles to do first. Haven't even tried it yet but will soon. Cheers, Sean
sean_reid Posted January 26, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 26, 2009 BTW, I just spoke with Tony Rose at Popflash Photo and he thinks the 24/3.8 is, and here I quote, "unbelievable". Cheers, Sean
