wilfredo Posted January 22, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Are there any photos taken with the S2 any where? I'd like to see some, especially B&W shots. W.
Advertisement Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here How About Some Photo's?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wilfredo Posted January 22, 2009 Author Share #2 Posted January 22, 2009 A google search lead to these studio shots but I don't think these pictures are very convincing, they could have been done with a Canon 5D. I'd like to see something stunning! LEICA Camera AG - Robert Grischek

plasticman Posted January 22, 2009 Share #4 Posted January 22, 2009 Hi Wilfredo The latest edition of LFI has the printed versions from this photoshoot - don't know if you're a subscriber? The images look good, but at the moment we're not really seeing anything that couldn't be taken with several other cameras. I'm still hoping that the concept is a success, but right now I'm feeling slightly less optimistic. At least we may see some flow of technological developments to the other camera ranges - naturally I'm hoping for improved sensors in the M-system, for instance. adan Posted January 22, 2009 Share #5 Posted January 22, 2009 Realistically, until you or we can get our hands on full, final-firmware original .DNG files, there won't be much useful to see. Obviously web images or A2 print publications are about as useful as a picture of Jupiter shot with a 50mm lens - too small. A 40 x 60 inch print, 100 x 150 cm, direct from a camera file, is what it will take. IF, and it's a significant "if" at this point, Leica lives up to their own standards, an S2 file will be the equivalent of 4 stitched M8 or DMR shots, and will leave the 21/25 Mpixel, antialiased DSLRs in the dust. But no mass-reproduction format will be able to show that, except maybe a glossy VOGUE double-fold. Plus, you don't really know what the camera can do until you've applied your own processing to the image - seeing something with someone else's color profiles, sharpening, B&W conversion settings, etc. is no better than a jpeg. Leica likely won't release any images until the firmware is in the very final stages, at least 1-point-something, (nor would I bother with betaware images for judgement even if I could see them) - so there won't be anything useful to see for ourselves until not long before the official intro date (currently pegged at August). marknorton Posted January 23, 2009 Share #7 Posted January 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) They need to do something though; 4 months since Photokina, how long before we get to see the thing for real - 6, 8, 12 months? By the time it does finally appear, there's a danger people's attention will be elsewhere. I can't imagine there are many people holding off an MF purchasing decision while Leica get things together. Life is too short to since on the fence for ever.
TimF Posted January 23, 2009 Share #8 Posted January 23, 2009 A google search lead to these studio shots but I don't think these pictures are very convincing, they could have been done with a Canon 5D. I'd like to see something stunning! LEICA Camera AG - Robert Grischek Agreed, the web versions aren't anything to shout about. The print versions were much more impressive as far as I'm concerned. Also agree that some more shots need to be seen (and not just studio stuff either).
chilihead Posted January 23, 2009 Share #9 Posted January 23, 2009 Take a look at the results people are getting with the new Nikon D3X - at 24 Megapixels the results are simply astounding - (let alone the D700) - and the S2 will surpass that!
