I bought an LC1 when they first came out. I waited for the price to drop down to the $1100 USD range. Loved the camera. I would hate to have a silver one. My sensor failed I paid to have it fixed.

 

I love my LC1.....takes great shots. I would buy another in a second. I also have an L1 and a couple of Canon digitals, but I love this BLACK camera.

Not to make you wrong, but Panasonic (headquarter) know about the failure and have issued a statement that they will fix it for free. I also had trouble getting Panasonic to change it for free and waited 6 months before they gave in.

 

Leica change on the fly without any question and CLA the camera for free as well.

I tried very hard to get the to cover it. EVERYONE know there is a problem. They would not cover it in the USA.

 

If that has changed great. It did not exist when I had my failure.

 

If it has changed, I still have my receipts, maybe I can get my money back.

According to their service locator page, Panasonic will repair all "DMC" cameras for a flat fee of $161.50, which isn't too awful bad, actually. Here's an excerpt from it:

 

"If your camera model begins with DMC ----- If unit was purchased over 1 year ago, the flat rate repair charge is $161.50 (Return Shipping Included). Please include a check or a credit card number to eliminate any delays in processing your repair.

 

Failures resulting from misuse, moisture damage, impact damage or other physical damage do not qualify for flat rate repair. In these cases, a separate repair estimate will be prepared for your approval."

 

Did you pay more? Did they claim the failed sensor wasn't covered by this policy as I understand it's due to moisture damage?

Panasonic have had that flexible charge policy for years, if they can get away with it they will. I published that in another forum and was asked by a Panasonic tech rep not to repeat it via an unsolicited pm.
