mikebrice Posted October 19, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I went to Paris and Madrid last year, and took a ton of Nikon digital gear, along with the Leica MP and a 35/2 and a 50/2. This year, I am going to Paris and Rome, and I am thinking about just taking the Leica MP and the two lenses and leaving the DSLR at home. I know I might be asking the wrong forum, but do you think I am nuts. I made good images with the Leica, and it was so much nicer with a lighter kit when I was walking around the city. A couple other options: 1) Take the Leica, and my Bessa R2A as a back up for a full analog soultion. 2) Take the Leica and my Epson RD-1 for a digital/film combo - only pitful is that the 35 is the widest I have and on a RD-1, its not that wide. 3) Take the Leica, and a point and shoot digital, like my Fuji F30. Any ideas, thoughts. Thanks in advance. Mike

Guest maddin Posted October 19, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2006 Mike, leave the digis home, concentrate on your travel companion(s) and bring mp/35/50 combo. once home scan the films if you need it digital. sounds probably too simple but with that set you are almost complete. a 90mm would complete it, though. however, it is quite unlikely that you keep on changing lenses so you might even consider alternatively the 35 or 50 only especially as they are rather close anyway. concentrating on one lens certainly will force you to compose the shot more consciously and i believe you will be a much more bearable travel partner yourself, sitting in a cafe relaxing and watch the world pass by - rather than trying to catch it;) and yes you are in the wrong forum (but the moderator might move you to the right one, most likely the customer forum) cheers
stunsworth Posted October 19, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 19, 2006 You should be ok in Paris with a 35mm as your widest lens on a film body. That was my standard lens when I lived there. There may be occasions when you'd like something a little wider, but 35mm will probably be ok. Some shots from the other Sunday - albeit with a full frame digital SLR and mainly 50mm. The only point being that a really wide lens isn't necessarily a must have. Paris

rob_x2004 Posted October 19, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 19, 2006 Remember you need space for film. Don't let anyone kid you. Chances are your film volume/weight will outstrip a few spare lenses. For me I would take an MP and a thirty five. Wear it.
jmr Posted October 19, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 19, 2006 Mike, less (weight) is definitely more (fun) when seeing Rome, in my experience. I took my Digilux 2 and C-Lux, but only used the C-Lux - how lazy is that
