dear all,

just to close the loop. I got a minty summaron with the hood!

A lovely small lens, dreamy when you want it to be (wide open, well as wide as it gets at 5,6)...just got back from a trip so immediately shot a few here at home on the M8.2 with IR filter.

here an example, will be taking it out on the IIf and Neopan hopefully at the weekend

thanks for all the input on the thread....

and the color version to compare...both quick and dirty processing but you get the taste of the lens I think,

sure there is some cyan vignetting but I don't really care about it...

cheers

Good choice, Andy... :) ... I quoted the CV, but I'm intimately of your idea...

In the meantime I found 3 M8 shots made with Summaron 28 : a portrait in interiors, a landscape, a family scene ... all three I think at f 8 or 11, the interiors surely at 640 ASA, probably at 160 the landscape (which was surely sharpened - UVIR on in the interiors).

What a lovely group. You make me want to stop by for dinner!

Glad you got a lens sorted Andy. Although I own nothing that old, my respect for older lenses has grown since I obtained a 35/M v.1 and 21/3.4M - these older designs might not be up to 'modern standards' but are still, IMHO, very capable lenses. If I ever decide to buy a 28mm I will probably look at these older screw thread lenses too.

here a couple from this morning, both at 320 asa and f8.

the lens seems to be low contrast as expected but very 'smooth'.

the files really hold up in post processing and keep the highlights very well IMO.

Gunnar thanks a lot....

am itching to get it on my CL with Trix and Neopan....am sure it will be a winner, based on what it does on digital.

keep you posted

andy

Yep, on CL makes a supercompact fine set... even if chrome-on-black is a little strange... ;) . Pity for the need of external VF... find an old SUOOQ... it's the most compact and very good for using, though super-old.

i don't mind chrome on blacka nd with the big hood you don't even see the lens:D

thanks for the tip on the finder....will check it out.

although I will shoot without any external finder to start with and just use the entire finder as a guide and see how I get on..

cheers

andy

Hi!

I´m all new to this forum. I have a lens hood for the 2.8cm lens that is cone shaped. It seems as if it is older than the square one posted in this thread. Do you guys know if this hood is for the Summaron 5,6?

...welcome to the forum, Focus.

Sounds like your hood is the SOOHN, which was the designated hood for the 28mm Hektor f6.3 lens (HOOPY). The designated hood for the 28mm Summaron f5.6 (SNOOX) is the rectangular SOOBK (see post #17 by jc-braconi). My assumption is that you own a SNOOX.

The good news is that from a strictly functionality point of view, the SOOHN works just as well as the SOOBK on the SNOOX. Enjoy.

If your hood is like this :

It's really the SOOHN for Hektor 28 as aesop says: works fine on the Summaron too.

Thank you for the replies. Yes that´s the one I got, together with my Summaron 28, good that they work together then. Just tried some exposures with the Summaron alone, it seems like a great lens

Just a quick note. I love my Summaron 5,6/28 and use it on my 1c with a modern leica viewfinder. I do not need to worry about focusing and the pictures have that creamy feeling of the best screw mount lens. It is a pricy lens though. I purchased one for $700 and then found the original hood (no box) for $400 here in Seoul. The lens originally was a little cloudy but the expert repair shop here (http://www.camerafix.com.kr) removed it for $100. I have many pictures but they are not scanned yet. When I do I will post them. By the way the Leica Club here in Korea is very active with 17,000 members. They are mostly into the M series cameras.
