jlancasterd Posted October 18, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) A souvenir of a recent holiday in Switzerland - taken from the rack railway between Andermatt and Goschenen. I hadn't been there before and this is a grab shot as there is really only the one place where the train isn't in either a tunnel or an avalanche gallery. R8+DMR at 100ASA, 21-35mm Vario Elmar. Advertisement Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Hi jlancasterd, Take a look here Schollenen Gorge. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jmr Posted October 18, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 18, 2006 John, good shot, it looks like one of those fantastical backgrounds from a Hollywood movie.
wizard Posted October 18, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 18, 2006 Nice one, which could also have been entitled "Old road, new road", assuming the lower road is the old one (now probably closed) that existed before they dug the tunnel for the new road above. I may be wrong of course, as I have never visited this place. Cheers, Andy

It links Goschenen, a station on the Gotthard rail route, with Andermatt. Both roads are very steep - the gorge was one of the great barriers to travel in the Alps before the Gotthard rail tunnel was opened in the 1880s. martinop Posted October 18, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 18, 2006 Exciting view and perspective. Do you have version shot in color?
jlancasterd Posted October 18, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted October 18, 2006 Exciting view and perspective. Do you have version shot in color? See below. I don't think it works as well in colour - there is a strong blue cast in the shadows apart from anything else (the altitude is about 5,000 feet at this point and the sky was very clear)
